  • Meguiar's Pads

I recently switched from 3M Perfect-It pads to the Meguiars pads, bought 3 of each kind. The meguiar's pads seem to "lock up" I will be buffing and it will kick back and "bark", then it leaves a gob of product stuck on the car that I have to use QD to get off. I tried spraying some QD on the pad before I applied the product and it still did it. What do I need to do to make it quit doing this?

    Im using:
    #84 with a cutting pad 1400-1700rpm
    #83 with a polishing pad 1300-1700 rpm
    #80 with a polishing pad 1200-1500 rpm

I prime the pad with QD use Im pretty sure I am using enough product, Ive tried using more then usual and less then usual and neither stop the barking.

I wish I could help you there but I don't have enought experience with the rotary as yet to advise. But I did want to ask, if you wouldn't mind, if you could provide a little further detail on the terms you used "kick back", "Bark", and "lock-up". I mainly wanted to know so I can keep my eye out for these problems while using the RB myself. Hopefully some of the more experienced folks will chime in and clue us both in on this.

The only way I can describe it is that it feels like the pad is catching on something. It makes a bark sound when it happens.

Ive been using a rotary buffer for 7 years with 3M pads and meguiars chemicals and Ive never had this happen before.

I can't say I have experienced this as yet. I have had experiences where I have left thick patches of polish on the surface but that seemed to be mainly due to using too much product and then switching directions too quick. I can't remember any associated "barK' sound though. I'll have to keep an ear on it.

Just a thought here. Could it be that you are using a little too much product on a saturated pad? That seems to be when I cause myself the most aggrivation.

OK, hopefully someone with a better skill level will help you out. You have about 6 years RB experience on me so I am not the best person to help. Odd that I have not seen this before though. I will watch for it though.

              *********UPDATE************

It seems like the pads "broke in" and they work great now. It just took some use and cleaning of them to break them in.
