Matika 9227CX3

Hey guys, I'm looking to purchase a rotary. I found the Matika 9227CX3 which is the rotary along with the bag and some pads for $154 w/free shipping from Amazon. First of all, I wanted to know if this is a deal I should jump on and secondly, anybody recommend anything else in that price range? If it comes down to the Hitachi, Matika, or DeWalt, which one is the easiest to use? Thanks for your help guys.

I also found the Porter Cable 7428 for $106 shipped. It doesn't seem to get much recognition though.

All of the higher end rotary's are pretty much the same deal most wil have a clutched start and a variable trigger. I purchased the makita simply because it is on the lighter side compared to the dewalt. I have not regretted the purchase one bit and am using for detailing boats several day a week. I have had a few mishaps with it though. I got the cord wrapped in the spindle when i wasnt paying attention and the buffer ripped the connection inside. I had to have the cord replaced and it was as good as new. I have accidently dropped it off a 10ft latter one or 2 times. And it has even fallen in the water. I blew it off with a compressor and its still like the day I bought it. Its an excelent tool. Be careful around cars if u purchase it. Hope that helps. Greg.

They're all good machines. You're in a win-win situation no matter which you pick.

That's a killer deal on the 7428. FWIW I believe the only reason it doesn't get much recognition is that it isn't commonly sold through too many of the "normal channels" in the auto-body and detailing industry. Folks who use them love them.

I don't know Shawn, the PC 7428 ends up being more than $60 cheaper, it has a 10 amp motor to the DeWalt's 8 amp (does that really matter???) and it uses a velco attachment system while the DeWalt mentions "Spindle lock for easy pad changing" which indicates something different to me. I think I'm going with the 7428.

I would pull the trigger on the PC 7428 since it might make the transition from the PC 7424 a little easier but Im worried about the 1.5lb difference in weight. Decisions decisions.....

Weight matter with a rotary. The more you have to "uphold" on side panels the more work it is for you. My B&D is a dream on horizontal panels but on a door, I can remember times when I would have given it away. If I were in your shoes, I'd go for the Hitachi. Virtually identical to the Makita and the warranty is awesome.

I have a Makita 9220CB that I bought in 1996 or so. Still good as new, nothing to complain about. I have actually used it to run a small water pump one time too, when my cheap drill let the smoke out..

I'm not a professional, so I don't use it *that* much, but I think a cheap buffer would have been worn out several times with my use. It's very powerful and will wrestle out of your hands even with a firm grip if it gets caught on something (BTDT when detailing a boat), so be careful if you're new to rotary buffers.

This is a sweetheart of a machine combining the best features of the DeWalt 849 and Makita 9227. It offers the heavy duty construction of the DeWalt with the powerful 10 amp. motor and front bail handle of the Makita. Porter Cable also includes a hook and loop backing plate which is optional on the DeWalt.

The Porter Cable 7428 circular polisher is actually made in Germany by Flex. Flex is a world leader in polishing machine technology being the innovator of the variable speed trigger.
