  • bought a rotary,need help or a teacher

i bought a simoniz rotary buffer yesterday (was within my budget) 600 to 3000 rpm, weights 8 lbs, slow start, power button lock ,comes with a ****** terrycloth set of bonnet to put over the crappy foam pad (7")

i decided to use this along with 3M polish (one we can find at walmart) to practice on my sidekick hood.

the finish feels like a glass but i still have swirls and i induced hollograms

also i had a problem with the rotary "jumping around" sometimes

i want to get some pratice on my truck , i know i need atleast 2 coumpound and 2 different pads but wich ones? (all this is budget related)

AND if there is someone from Québec/Canada in the laval st-jerome region that is willing to teach me ill be an attentive student, i want my cars to look good

do you have the product number on that? I am pretty sure Simoniz does not make rotarys, they only make orbitals... (unless you are talking about the porter cable)

    47-????- ?

oh ya i almost forgot to MOL

I couldn't find it, but its definitly not the porter cable because the Porter cables product codes start with 47- , i think it may be a wen 2 speed rotary??

Is there any way you can take a picture of this Simoniz buffer? I have to agree with sneek, I go to Canadian Tire often and I have never seen a Simoniz rotary before. I remember seeing one with a price of $99.99 a while back, however I am sure it was not a Simoniz and I have not seen it since.

My personal opinion is that if you want to get really good at something you need to invest some time, money and effort into it. If you want to learn how to properly use the rotary, then I suggest you pick up a quality buffer like a Dewalt, Makita or even a Hitachi.

It seems that you are going to any store and picking up whatever is on the shelf. Meguiar's polishes are unique since they use diminishing abrasives. I think you should search for this on the forum so that you get a better understanding of what it means. Once you understand the difference, you will see that it all makes sense and that it's the safe way to go.

If your budget is limited at the moment, then I would wait until you can get a quality brand name buffer. It will be easier to use and if you will easily be able to sell it later on if you don't plan on using it anymore which will allow you to recover some of the money you spent.

I'm also from Montreal, feel free to PM me if you have more questions.

          Good luck!

But the polisher is something from canadian tire and it has to do with "car care" (the 39 numbers), i just cant think of the 39 9013??
