Does PC7248 have electronic speed control?

    Does PC7248 have electronic speed control?

    Seems like e-bay's got a seller selling this buffer for cheap. I don't really like it that much because of the weight, but the most important decision factor for me (b/w this and Makita) is the electronic control that maintains pad rpm under load.

    Anyone know if this PC has that feature? I looked everywhere, including PC's own site, but no one lists it.

    I know the Makita, Hitachi and Dewalt all have that feature.

    I'm think it's safe to assume it doesn't. If it did Porter-Cable would probably be touting it.

    The exploded view parts drawing doesn't show a circuit board.

      OOPS!

      Sorry, I was thinking 7424 not 7428.

      So, let's start over.

      For the 7428 7" Variable-Speed Polisher there still isn't any mention of electronic speed control on PC's site.

      The parts list does show a "little black box" that's called the 272833 Speed Control. This looks like it could be and electronic control but it doesn't say one way or the other.

      The 7428 is made by Flex, PC's German subsidiary. I can't say that they have the exact same model in Europe but they do have some that look almost the same and have very similar, but not identical, specifications. They apparently have "FLEX five-fold VR electronics: with consistent speed control by tachometer generator, soft start with accelerator trigger switch, overload protection, temperature monitoring, and speed selection with optimised lower speed range."

        Thanks for the info.

        Yeah I was a little surprised at your first response too. Considering the big PC is a "high end" buffer (i.e. not HF stuff), with variable speed already built into it, why wouldn't it have electronics?

        I was never interested in this model right now, but it's simply very cheap to buy right now. With the high Cdn dollar, I can get this for $156 Cdn SHIPPED on e-bay.

        At the same time though, a local tool store is having a sale on the 9227 - $199 Cdn. I don't know what to get.

        The Hitachi is out of the question - it'll cost me over $200 from Coastal Tool once shipping and border broker fees are added.

        On top of that, the local hardware store is dropping the Dewalt $100 to $200 Cdn.

        Man, decision, decision, decision!

        Maybe I'll stick with my Craftsman drill with a pad thrown on there for rotary buffing
