newbie questions on products to buy

hey, im lookin into buying a rotary buffer, nothing major just something i can use every once in awhile on my own car, my paint is in pretty good shape it does have some swirl marks and some light scratches. What would be a good rotary buffer to buy, i have a couple friends who detail cars so they will show me how to use it, also what products and pads should i buy to get my paint looking perfect, thanks in advance

Have you used a PC at all while detailing?

If you have no experience using machines to work on your car, the PC, or G-100, is really the best way to go, esp since you say you only have some swirls to deal with. You can really do damage quickly with a rotary if you are not familiar with it, and the PC will give the best finished results.

Take a look at these threads first, and do a search for G-100 on the forum, and lots of pics will pop up of cars detailed that way.

well since you're gonna be guided in how to use it, it depends on what you really want to focus on.

for example, since you say you just want to know how to remove swirl marks, you could use products like M82 swirl free polish, #9 swirl remover, or M83 dual action cleaner/polish.

for pads, you should use w8000 softbuff polishing pad and w9000 softbuff finishing pad.

regarding RPM's just don't exceed 1500 :P

and a good buffer? you can choose a makita or a deWalt. both are very good rotaries, mostly because of their properties and because they are long lasting, but it depends on how often you want to use it also. if you'll use it once in a while, then any rotary can fit your needs. just make sure you can handle the weight of the buffer.
