The Makita 9227CX# has the letter prefix CX3 associated with the part number while the Makita 9227c uses the letter "c" with the part number and last but not least the Makita 9227cy uses the letters "c and Y" with the part number.
Does that help?
Seriously, here's a link to a page on the Makita website that lists all of the above polishers
9227C
Variable speed (0-3,000 RPM) with pre-set maximum speed dial; ideal for ultra slow polishing
Pre-set speed setting dial (from 600-3,000 RPM) for maximum control
Electronic speed control maintains constant speed under load
Easily converts to a sander
3 prong plug to prevent static electricity accumulation
Fast and powerful polishing for clearcoat finishes
Lock-on button for continuous use at one speed

Typing in 9227 cx3 turned up nothing?
The difference between the other two is one comes with a stick handle and the other comes with both a stick handle and a hoop handle.
Either one is a great choice, I prefer a stick handle for what it's worth.
