  • Polisher not removing all polish?

I recently received my polisher and started to use it yesterday. I applied some NXT liquid wax by hand and then used a white, general purpose, non-cutting pad to buff it off on low speed. It came off but I realized that there was still some left when I took a microfiber cloth to it later. It seem to have left oily smudges/streaks.

I tried it again today, thinking that perhaps I had not let the NXT dry long enough. Same thing. I also tried to buff first with the white and then finish with a gray finishing pad. This was abit better but it still does not seem to be removing all of the wax.

I then decided to try some cleaner wax and a different car. So I threw the Meguiars cleaner wax on the 355 by hand and then tried to polish it off. It was a bit better than on the previous car but still not perfect. I am getting the same oily streaks that you would see if you had over applied a product or you would see when a buffing towel is getting old. What am I missing? This is driving me crazy.

Maybe I need to try a bonnet or something? Any clue?

    Thanks!

Right, get an ultimate bonnet or two and use them to remove the wax.

Get a finishing pad and use that to apply the wax.

I think there may be some confusion here. A polishing pad is meant to apply a product, not remove it. To remove a polish or wax you need to use either a microfiber bonnet or towel. The different grades of pads are meant for different cutting strengths depending on your paint's condition.

Yes, the pads are for applying, then you would remove with a microfiber by hand, or an ultimate bonnet by PC. Also, you paint is well prepared before waxing? If it hasnt been cleaned/polished, it could also go on streaky.

          Hey GTScott,

Like the others have mentioned, the polishing pads etc are for product application. I like to apply the NXT Tech Wax using Meguiar's W-9006 Finishing Pad with the PC set to speed 3. After allowing the product to set-up and having performed the swipe test, I then remove the NXT residue with a Meg's Ultimate MF Bonnet over a clean W-8006 Polishing Pad (PC set to speed 5). The W-8006 pad and bonnet have enough stiffness to remove the product yet soft enough to conform to body shapes. Once you see the result of the using the Ultimate Bonnet with the PC, you will absolutly LOVE the paint's finish!!

Great responses! It looks like I missed a huge key here - use a bonnet to remove the polish. I have these detailed instructions on proper detailing tips from a supplier and they skip over that.

I will pick up some microfiber bonnets locally and give that a shot. Where would one find this ultimate bonnet or is that an online deal only?

Thank you SO much for your help!

Thanks for the link..I will pick up some of those!

Someone mentioned to me that, due to the ease of removal, that you would not get any real benefit from removing the NXT by hand. However, if I am doing several of my cars in a weekend, I want to preserve as much of my muscles as possible. I assume there is no DISADVANTAGE to removing the NXT by buffer, right?

Finally, what is this swipe test?
