Flex 3401 VRG vs Rupes LHR21 III

Hi guys,

New member here, i had a quick look and couldnt see a post on this but im sure there is.

So im looking into getting a new DA, Flex or rupes the age old question.

I like the idea of the 3401 being gear driven (no bog) but it gives me the fear how quick its meant to go through paint. I have been using a rupes alot recently and really like it compared to my das 6 but i dont want to get 3 months down the line and think should of got a flex. just wish i knew someone with a flex to get a shot of haha

any thoughts anyone

Gladiateur1974, it might be helpful for the OP if you explain why you like a specific Rupes tool vs Flex.

Here's my $.02. The Flex is an awesome machine. Period. I've been using mine for about 8 years and am just now looking to add another heavy hitter to the shop. Originally I'd planned to get another 3401 but my eye fell on a post somewhere about the Rupes Mille LK900. It's also a force rotation machine. I'm likely to try the Rupes this go around because of the favorable reviews I've read, smoother, quieter,... But if it weren't for that, I'd surely get a second Flex.

The negatives: 1) There is a learning curve when compared to using a typical DA. I wouldn't let it scare you away. You won't burn through paint like a rotary might. But you'll just need to work at a slower speed for the first few times until you get use to the feel, and slight pull of the counter-clockwise rotation. Try different pads, some will pull more than others depending on your polishing product. 2) It's not for applying the last step product in my mind. I still like a lightweight DA for that.

why neglect the MT300? is it that bad comapre to a Rupes. Makes me feel i bought the wrong machine consider a Rupes and a MT300 cost roughly the same in Sweden
