  • Question about diminishing abrasives

I don't think there is a cut and dry answer to my question but here goes it.

How long does it take/how do you know when the diminishing abrasives have broken down?

I know there are going to be several factors like speed setting, amount of product, arm speed, and arm pressure. Is there any way to tell when they have broken down?

I think I used too much product when I did my friends car the other day because the pad was soaked. I would polish for many passes and then I would apply more product because I was worried that the cutting action was gone because the abrasives had broken down.

I appreciate any help you can give me,

    Hi Mini-T,

I'm afraid there is no hard answer, experience is the best teacher.

It is important to buff long enough, but no so long you go to a dry buff. If you don't buff long enough and the abrasives are not broken down, then you could leave swirls or a haze. Try cutting down on product use when using a cleaner/polish and buffing smaller areas.
