  • Buffer/Polisher Help

    Hello,

Each time I read through detailing posts, I'm confused.

I see DA, PC, Rotary, Orbital, etc, etc...

I don't quite understand what the difference between these are?

The only one I know is DA, which is Dual Action, correct?

If someone could help me out and tell me what each one is and what is good for what, that'd be great.

    Thanks!

DA (Dual action polisher), PC (Porter Cable), and G100 (Meguiar's version of the PC) are the same machine. The buffing shaft orbits, but the pad has no torque to make it spin.....The pad spins freely if you touch it, but it wiil not spin once the buffer is in use. This type of machine is great for minor to moderated paint defects & swirls, and is very safe to use.

The rotary buffer on the other hand is much like a grinder, or a drill, in that the buffing pad rotates under torque. It is mainly used for correcting serious paint defects. A rotary can cause serious paint damage in unskilled hands.

The orbital machines are the ones you see in the Wal-Mart, K-Mart, type of stores. It has the same orbiting characteristics as the PC, but it is not built for heavy duty use, and is limited to light polishing and waxing......Plus the pads are not too great either.

I recommend the G100 from Meguiars. It comes with a lifetime, "no questions asked" warranty, and is easy to use, and gives great results.

              Hi great adventure.......Welcome to MOL.

Speed Glaze is one of Meguiar's most versatile products, in that it can be used by hand, orbital, DA Polisher, and rotary buffer. It even has some protection qualities to it.........Not bad for a cleaner/ polish.

If you use it with a rotary, then I would recommend Meguiar's W-8006 foam polishing pad.

If your Dewalt sander accepts a 5/16" arbor screw, then you might be able to use Meguiar's DA velcro buffing system It comes with the backing plate plus 2 polishing pads, and 1 finishing pad.
