  • Polish dust

Hi guys I'm asking this out of fear of undoing all my hard work but I'm not quite sure how to describe it, so bare with me....

I was polishing yesterday on quite a hot day and only was working on one panel. I was cutting with rotary using 105, then more cutting with da and finally polishing with 205

Now I noticed a lot of polish spots on the panel I had done last week... Not dust but small spots of polish that had settled there from what I was doing on the panel I was working on. This wasn't compound that had flicked, it was more like larger and harder dust spots.

They were stuck on there quite hard and wouldn't wipe off with a micro like the dust (they only came off with light fingernail pressure)so I thought I'd wash them off at the end. I had used all my soft clay and my car is black so I didn't want to use the harsher clay that I had, so I used fresh hot water with gold class wash and a brand new lambs wool mitt. I rinsed with hose before washing. They were hard to remove so I used a bit more pressure but was carful not to push too hard.

After drying the panel with a new megs water magnet ( with care not to use the seems on the paint) I saw fresh swirls (admittedly much much lighter than usual swirls)on my car!!!!

What caused this and how do I stop it??? Was it the abrasive polish spots causing this when I washed the car? What do you guys do to get rid of these spots) was it the hot sun that caused them to harden in to my paintwork?

    Thanks in advance

Also here in the uk it's spring and green pollen was landing on my car every 5 minutes. Is this abrasive enough to cause complications?

Hmmm. Maybe it wasn't the polish and it was the pollen instead. The panel that has swirls in was being wiped with a micro to remove the polish dust quite a bit. It looks like the pollen dust was probably damaging the paintwork

        Thanks for the info don

So with regards to the stubborn polish spots, are they anything to cause concern? What's the best way to safely remove them?

Like removes like, meaning if you really think it's polish residue/clumps stuck to the paint, then another (light) application of the same polish SHOULD dissolve the spots as well as clear up any swirls you've put in by trying to remove them with a mf cloth.
