  • 7424 same as G-100?

I'm new to the scene here so bare with me. I want to purchase a DA polisher and I've been on Porter Cable's site, http://www.porter-cable.com, looking at the 7424 and the 7336SP. They list these as variable speed random orbital polishers. They look as if they are the same as the G-100, but do they have the rotary action as well as the orbital making it a dual action? Also, are the 7424 and the 7336SP the same machine? They both have the same specs, but the 7336SP comes with some sanding accessories. I assume this may be why it has a different model number. I'd appreciate any comments.

There is a big difference between buying the PC 7336/7424 and the G-100. While they are the same mechanically, the G-100 carries a life-time no questions asked garauntee. If it ever breaks, meg's will replace it for free.

      Hi dmoore,

      Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

The two models of Porter Cable you list and Meguiar's G100 Dual Action Polisher are the identical tool, with the exception being the Porter Cable models comes with a 5 ounce counter weight and the other comes with a 6 ounce counter weight. The Meguiar's G100 comes with the 5 ounce counter weight and for all practical purposes, it just doesn't matter which counter weight you have when using this tool to polish paint.

Besides the counterweight issue, Meguiar's G100a comes with a lifetime warranty, one W-8006 foam pad, and one of our Velcro Backing plates.

The Porter Cable units you buy elsewhere either don't come with buffing pads and Velcro backing plates, or can be had with a fixed foam pad to plastic backing plate that most people say the white foam pad proved by Porter Cable is all but useless except for placing a bonnet over to remove wax.

      Meguiar's G100a list price is $225.95

      How's that?

      p.s.

Here's a thread that discusses the negligible effect of the counterweight by a professional and experienced detailer who uses this tool 6 days a week in his shop.

Thanks for the reply. I will just be using it for my own personal use so it won't see alot of heavy usage. If the porter cable is a dual action, I'll go pick one up and give it a try. Thanks again.
