  • Questions about Pad Maintainence

I bought a G110v2 awhile ago, and Im just getting around to using it now. I have a question about handling the pads, though. I have a yellow foam pad, dont remember the part number right now. I think my question is easiest asked as an example.

Im starting a full detail, so the car is washed and dried, I clayed the car, now Im going to use ultimate compound. I compound the whole car and it's all done. Now I want to move on to applying ultimate polish, and then liquid tech wax 2.0. What kind of cleaning needs to be done between the UC, the UP, and the tech wax? Does it need to be cleaned at all? I imagine the UC on the pad would interfere with the UP, and they both would interfere with the tech wax. Do I need a few different pads so I can toss one aside and put on a clean one for the next step, or can I use some kind of brush to reliably clean the compound off to start the polish on the same pad, then do the samewith the wax? Or does it need to go in the wash after each use?

I strove for perfection when I did it all by hand, so I want it to come out even better with the tool. Just not sure how nazi I need to be about keeping the pads pure and clean.

    Re: Questions about Pad Maintainence

You should use at least one new pad for each product.

So when you're done with UC, put the pad aside to be washed, and start with UP on a new pad. And same goes with your wax.

You should also "clean your pads on the fly", which is when you use a brush and/or terry towel to remove excess product and paint residue from the pad after every (or every other) section. Do a search for "cleaning your pads on the fly" for more info.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Get yourself some more pads. Having more pads is a good thing. But Davey pointed you in the right direction.

You may also want to use the black pad for Ultimate Polish (if you have already used Ultimate compound), and certainly for the wax. Good luck

It is really nice to swap to a new pad after a few panels, more so when compounding, even with cleaning on the fly.
You can always run in the house and hand wash the pad/pads with detergent and spin out with the DA.
After that blot them with a towel to remove some of the remaining moisture. Although not ideal this approach can work.

But in all reality, more pads is the best option.
