  • MT300, pad and sanding questions

I just started using a MT300 for personal use. It's working much better than anything I've used in the past, but I have tough jobs and I need all the help I can get.

    I'm using the MT300 with:

    5" backing plate, the DBP5
    Microfiber cutting discs DMC5
    Microfiber finishing discs DMF5

    So far I have started with 105 > 205 > Ultimate Wax

I use the 105 on a cutting disc, and I tried the 205 on a cutting disc but it would leave swirls except with the lightest touch. I think it works better on a finishing disc and I've been using that. I only bought a two-pack of the discs since I am not sure what will work out best yet.

Should I switch to the foam 2.0 pads next time? 105 on cutting, and 205 on polishing?

Also, I am looking for the most sensible way to get a little more aggressive than 105. I have hard water spots that 105 is taking too long with. On glass I use fine steel wool. Also on the paint, a lot of deeper scratches, orange peel and over-spray. I have experience wet sanding. It is a lot of work, but of course sand paper works much faster than compound. In the past I have done 1500>2000>2500 by hand, and then 105. I guessed that would work and it did fine. I am looking for an easier way.

Should I use the unigrit foam finishing discs with the MT300? What is a good progression for unigrit prior to 105? Should I use them wet? How do I keep them wet or clean and clear?

Re: MT300, pad and sanding questions

    Welcome to MOL.

Microfiber is an aggressive media. Try finishing with M205 on a foam pad. That should remove any defects from M105 or M205 on a cutting disc.

M105 on a microfiber cutting disc is already an aggressive combo. You could try to move up to the xtra cutting discs for more cut.
