  • W7207 and UC on DA?

Hello guys I just wanted to confirm this was correct and I got this right. Are you not suppose to use Ultimate Compound with a W7207 cutting pad? If you look on the second section of the thread Micheal Stoops is saying that its recommend to not use it with a dual action polisher, well now I'm confused isn't that the whole point of the pad, or is it that the two combined are too aggressive. The Later I'm expecting is the case. http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums...-and-Pad-Combo

We've moved this question to its own dedicated thread.

OK, here's the deal with the W7xxx series of foam cutting pads and their use on a DA. We don't recommend using that pad on a DA with any liquid simply due to how aggressive the pad itself is; with the oscillating motion of the DA there is a high probability that you'll end up hazing the paint. Now, this does not mean that you should never use this pad on a DA, it's just not recommended. There may be times when you've got a really stubborn defect that doesn't want to come out so you may want to swap over to the W7207 to work on that, but you may very well have to go over the area again with a W8207 to remove the haze.

Long term use of the W7xxx pads on a DA can lead to excessive heat build up at the hook & loop attachment, and this is due to the extra drag the pad creates against the paint. And since many people tend to use a lot of pressure when DA polishing this situation can be exacerbated rather quickly, and it can lead to failure of the pad and/or backing plate.

      Mike,

You moved it after I posted what I recommended and did last night as an example.

Thank you very much great info! Now I hope this isn't a stupid question but if I compound once a year using my Meguiar's do action polisher. How long (Est. obviously cause I'm aware that each car's clear is different from car to car), but is there a rough number of year to when you get the clear cut down so well that you're almost to the top coat. Basically to the point that you'll need to reclear the car to able to compound it? I am aware that people could easily cut down to top coat just by being uneducated and using a rotary and using a lot of pressure they could burn in to the paint, but i'm just speaking out of just yearly use with a DA polisher. Thank you!

I think it would take a very long time.

Once the finish is good then I would suppose using something like UP or M205 on the yellow pads for swirl removal should work as long as it's maintained.

Use the least aggressive products to get the job done.

I would recommend UQD and UQW for maintenance.

Re: W7207 and UC on DA?

Used the LC 6.5" Hydro-Tech Cyan Cutting pad with M105 today on the G110 V2 with excellent results, no marring and the G110 V2 had no trouble at all keeping it spinning.

Left a nice polished finish too like M105 does.

So between that and the Megs MF system it looks like we have options.
