  • What speed to run HF DA polishing for applying polish and wax?

I'm not sure if this needs to go in this forum or should be moved to Detailing 101, so move if needed.

I recently ordered 6 LC 5.5" flat foam pads (3 white, 3 gray/black) and have the 5" backing plate on the way (will be here tomorrow). I'll be using Ultimate Polish and Ultimate Wax. Now I just need the polisher. I'm going to pick up the Harbor Freight DA polisher tomorrow so I can detail this weekend. This will be my first polisher and from the reviews I've read here and on Autogeek.net, it's a pretty good little polisher for the money. I'm just a hobby detailer so this should work for now and I can move up to a PC or Griot's later.

My question is on the speeds. From what I've read, polishing will be done at a higher speed than applying wax. What is a good RPM range for applying polish and applying wax with the HF DA? There was a post I found a while back that listed the RPM speeds for each setting for a number of DA's but I can't find it and don't remember if the HF DA was in the list.

So, what is a good RPM/speed setting for applying the polish? For applying the wax?

I would ask this question on Autogeek since that is where you'd find the people who use that machine.
On a Meg's it's speed 5 at the most. Slower speed for more cutting power faster speed for polishing, any speed for wax (your only applying product and not doing any correcting so speed really isn't a concern)

For polishing start at speed 3 to spread the product, then kick it up to 5 to work the polish.
For wax set it at speed 3 to spread , no need to up the speed because you're just laying a thin coat of wax.

      Hope this helps.
