My little black car needed the passenger seat completely removed and reinserted to fit an entirely new base frame. It began to clunk around turns.
Well, the dealer was very kind in diagnosing it, mainly from description, which was nice.
However, when I got the car back, there were 3 small scratches (each a better part of an inch) stacked on top of each other below the door. Obviously, it isn't probably easy taking a seat in and out, and this was just left of where any protective sheet hanging inside the door would have reached. It was on the side skirt, but a portion that angles up so it was easily seen. It was very much near a lip/ridge though, which would making working the area difficult.
Dealer said it was "oh so minor, not much they could do." I allowed them to try to buff it out just so in good faith there was plenty of memory of the scratches being reported. They said on plastic only by hand was safe, and they claimed it helped by hand, but in sunlight, no improvement had been made whatsoever.
Then I went home. I tried via hand with M105, but I had same success as the dealer, no success at all.
Then I got out DA and the Microfiber system. I did probably 5 passes with compound and compound pad, carefully watching the pad rotate since on this 2 strip piece, it would be easy to stop the rotation.
After the passes, it was 99 percent gone. With a light, I can see a pinpoint of 1 of the scratches, but the other 2 completely vanished. In normal shaded light, I think it's completely gone. Oh so happy. Thanks DA & thanks MF system!
I didn't tape the edge/ridge though since it was so close to the one scratch, so I hope I didn't remove too much paint from that edge/ridge. I'll just be sure not to polish in this area when I do my yearly swirl removal. Hopefully all will be good.
I stay away from the dealer for what I can, but sometimes you need them. I'm glad I could fix their error. The Microfiber System was truly one of the greatest inventions ever. On my car, you really can't remove anything without it!
