  • G110V2 Revving

    Hey MOL,

I recently purchased a G110V2 and never got to try it out until I got a replacement through Meguiar's. I finally had a chance today to test it out on my car. When i was testing out the cruise control feature I noticed something odd about the polisher (shown in the video below). The polisher is on speed 1 and when i apply constant pressure it starts to rev like in the video. I relieve the pressure on the unit midway through the video and apply constant pressure again nearing the end.

Is this normal? I've read about problems with the unit just revving on it's own, but not anything like this. Is something wrong with the cruise control mechanism?

Any insight or comments will be appreciated, thanks!

I've never used the G110 but the unit has a mechanism to maintain its speed under pressure. Speed 1 is very slow, and with a pressure load on the machine it could just be it's trying to keep from stopping altogether, hence the revving you mention.

I'd try it on a higher speed and see if it continues.

Woops, I forgot to mentioned in my OP that the revving doesn't happen with the higher speeds (2 and up). I can see (can't hear it like in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PwsM5...eature=related) that the cruise control kicks in at speed 2 without the revving, but requires heavy pressure; moderate pressure or the weight of the machine keeps the pad stationary. It is hard to notice cruise control kick in at all with any speed higher than 2.

I don't have any real DA experience before this, so I just wanted to make sure that the machine is functioning as it should, and if it could possibly be my technique.

Speed 1 is not usually used with any real downward pressure at all. It's mainly used when applying a wax or 'jewelling' the paint with a finishing polish prior to applying wax. In both cases no more pressure than the weight of the machine is needed.

When correcting defects like swirls or scratches, a higher speed and pressure will be needed. Most defect correction is achieved around the 5 mark on the machine.

If the machine functions normally at speed 1 without downward pressure, I'd say it is working fine.

That makes sense. Thanks for your input =). I just wanted to know if it is normal for the G110v2 to do that. I was thinking perhaps it could be implying that the mechanism might not be working as it should, and is not audibly detectable at the higher speeds. Any G110v2 owners feel free to chime in with their experience as well!

I see over 200 views, no input/personal experience? Bump!
