  • Not even 5 minutes!

Just got my G110v2, and put a 4" pad and accompanying backing plate on to practice on a junkyard sppoiler I have. I worked the area well, but when I went towards the edge, I caught the point of the spoiler and tore a 1/4" chunk out of the pad. Had not had it 5 minutes. Is it still OK to use? How far can you go over the edge of a panel with the pad?

Without seeing the pad to fully assess the damage it's a bit hard to say, but we doubt that it's completely unusable at this point, especially while you're just practicing on this junkyard spoiler. But you've learned a lesson about being careful when running over sharp areas/material when buffing. While some overlap is perfectly acceptable with larger pads, the smaller the pad the less leeway you have with this sort of thing. But if you went over something sharp enough to grab the pad and cut it, that would happen regardless of the size of the pad.

The pad should work fine, but I would stick to products with non-diminishing abrasives as a traditional/old school polish or compound (M80 for example) could *in theory* become trapped within the pocket with light pressure and then reintroduced too late in the process from added force.
