This is very strange indeed as a microfiber towel should stick to the backing plate almost to an annoying level.

This is the first that I, personally, have heard of this but I just double checked with our Customer Care Center and they've seen just a couple of these cases before. Please give them a call at 800.347.5700 and they'll send a replacement to you right away. And please accept our apologies for any inconvenience or frustration this might have caused.

          Re: pad spinning off

I got a new backing plate and my pads stick very well to it. I will try to use it this week. Thanks for the help. I doubt the pads will spin off this time.

Does the new BP look any different? Any pictures?

I'm just as curious (read that as nosey) as a mouse in a cheeze factory.

                Re: pad spinning off

Bill, the backing plates will look identical, it was an issue with the hook material on this particular plate. It almost sounds like there was no actual "hook" to the material, but rather just short shafts. I'd have to see it in person to say for sure, but apparently we've only seen a handful (literally) of these in the past.

What we do see from time to time, and hear about even with other manufacturers pads, is the tearing of the loop material on the pad backing when a pad is mismatched to an overly aggressive backing plate loop. The simple act of removing the pad from that very aggressive loop starts to break down the loop material, and it just gets worse over time. But that's usually when someone is using one of our pads, or even a Lake Country pad, with a bit of an oddball backing plate. Not the fault of our pads or the LC pads, but an incorrect matching of plate and pad.

It is the same plate like Michael said. Looking forward to putting this thing to work.

THANK YOU! I get it now!
I just couldn't get my head around what happened.

My Meguiar's DA is doing the same thing with Meguiar's foam pads. I just thought it was something I was doing wrong, guess I will give customer service a call tomorrow and see if they can help me.

I had the same problem last weekend. I've only had my DA for 4 months and I'm sure this was my fault. I tried using a wool pad on my DA and I think there was too much drag. I noticed a slight smoke and then the pad fell off, and none of my pads would stick after that. I bought a new backing plate, but I also got some "industrial strength" 2-inch velcro strips (from Amazon). Pulling the old velcro from the plate was the hard part, but I did get it off. I trimmed and put the new velcro on and it works great! $4 velcro vs a $30 plate. Now I have two backing plates. I'll keep my repaired one as a just-in-case spare.

this should never happen. Check your technique. Also don't remove a spinning pad from a car. Wait until it stops spinning.
