I have the early 7424, and having been using the LC 6.5" flat pads, it is suggest that I use the 5.5" pads cause they will do a better job. I like the ideal that Meguiar's has 3 different color pads to use on there products instead of 5 or 6 different colors. My question is would the Mequiar's 6.5" pads work on my PC or should I go with the 5.5" pads?

Re: Pads for the PC 7424?
When you're comparing the 6.5" Softbuff pads to the 5.5" pads then I'd highly suggest using the 5.5" pads. The 5.5" pad produces less load to the machine especially when it's saturated with product.
However, since you like to try using the Meguiar's pads because of their simple pad assignments, then I'd give the 7" Softbuff 2.0 pads a shot. I like these pads better than my old 6.5" Softbuff pads. Even if the Softbuff 2.0 pads are half an inch bigger in diameter, I feel that the 7424 has an easier time rotating this pad than the original Softbuff variant. I think this is mainly because the Softbuff 2.0 has a thinner pad (except on the edges) because the pad's recessed to accommodate for the W68DA backing plate. Since the 7" Softbuff 2.0 pads are thinner in the middle, I think it produces less of a load compared to the original 6.5" Softbuff pads. For best results, you also need to get the W68DA backing plate.
Another advantage of the new Softbuff 2.0 pads is that they're machine washable! I love my Softbuff 2.0 pads.

Re: Pads for the PC 7424?
Marc offerred great advice for using Meguiars 7 inch pads. The burgandy cutting pad is not designed to be used with a D/A.
If you want a smaller pad such as 5.5 inches and simple choice of 3 pads, check out Lake Country's Hydrotech line. I have them in 5.5 by 7/8 inch and they are babies compared to the Meguiars pads. The smaller pads are also easier to move around tight spaces.Practice doesn't make perfect, the dedication to achieve perfection makes perfect. "Smack"

You can use up to a 7 inch pad on your D/A. The first thing you need to decide what you want from your pads and prioritize it. Size, range of selection and so forth.Practice doesn't make perfect, the dedication to achieve perfection makes perfect. "Smack"

Re: Pads for the PC 7424?
The low profile hydrotech pads suggested by smack is the ideal 5.5" pads. The hydrotech pads and the LC flat pads are 7/8" tall. The Softbuff 6.5" pads are 1 1/8" tall so that extra volume absorbs the energy from the polisher. I know for a fact that the Softbuff 2.0 pads aren't that thick. I'm going to assume that it's also 7/8" thick and that's why it doesn't have a hard time rotating it.
