    DA - Which one?

    Thinking of buying the Meguair's DA polisher however am confused in regards to the difference in pads.

    Was looking at this G110v2:

    All of them are 6.5inch foam pads. Looked through a couple of threads and people are saying 5.5inch foam pads are the way to go?

    Whats the difference if I get a 6.5inch compared to the 5.5inch? Is it just the surface area that the 5.5inch is better suited for most areas on the vehicle or am I missing something?

    Also, the G220v2, whats the difference? Seems like a newer version but I am unable to find it on the AG website.

    I find the 5.5 inch pads more practical to work with (fit / conform to tight areas better).

    Also, you'll get slightly better correction with a slightly smaller pad. It would actually pay to get a few 4 inch pads as well IMO...

      The 4 inch pads look like a good idea for those tight spots. I woulnd't want to splatter all my wax/polishers everywhere.

      What makes me wonder is the complete combo that was suggested on the AG site. Makes it difficult for one to go with the 5.5inch with taking the combo

        5.5" pads are smaller (and can also be found in a thinner version), which means that they're lighter and hence easier for a DA to spin - and you get more correction if your pad is spinning. It's possible to correct with larger pads, but it does require more technique and experience to ensure that you're able to keep the pad rotating.

          Hi umi,

          Thanks for the comment, much appreciated.

          I think what I have to do now is just pick up the meguair's DA and select the 5.5" pads instead of the combo. Wonder how much everything would sum up to, was planning to get the 4 inch pads and backing plate too.

          Also, can I wash the pads normally? As in soak in clothing wash solution?

          Whats the difference with the G220v2 version?

            Also in terms of washing, its not possible to wash it like how I was microfibre towels? (No softener liquid wash)

              As was covered, the general rule of thumb with a da polisher is the smaller the pad, the more correcting power.
              The G220v2 is a model for countries with a 220 volt power grid (much of the world outside of North America).
              Regarding washing the pads; you need to with check with the manufacturer or ask someone who has used the specific pads you are considering. Some are machine washable and some are not.

                  Its the Kestrel DAS-6.

                  Was just wondering if anyone has used it before? Apparently it is similiar to the Meguair's DA.

                  Plannign to get this as well as Lake Country backing plates and foam pads. Any suggestions? wanting to go for the 4" and 5.5" foam pads

                    I haven't used one, but I've heard the DAS-6 is a good polisher.

                        I'm not sure if I'm missing something but usually you'll see people mention the Griots Garage 6, which I have. It is definitely another popular choice as is the Meguiars one. You can't go wrong with either in my opinion.

                          Hey Nick,

                          Yeah I've looked at some reviews for GG6, does not seem to be me. Saw an older thread where they compared the lot. I tried looking for GG here in NZ as well however unable to see anything that pops up on Google. Maybe they only sell them at specialty shops

                          I've heard some good reviews on the Kestrel however apparently it does not have cruise control. Would this be a big deal?

                            The GG6 does not have cruise control and yet I have no issues with corrections and such. So I don't think not having it would be a huge deal

                              I have the Griot's Garage 6 and Griot's garage 3, both are great machines, i recently used the GG6 to wax my 3 vehicles, made quik work of them & saved my muscles!! I also used my GG3 to remove some scuff marks off my Subie's bumper courtesy of someone's carelessness....the GG3 did a great job and you could barely see the original scuff marks. You cannot go wrong with Griot's Garage.
                              You can buy a GG6 & GG3 on Amazon, ADS, Autogeek or direct from Griot's Garage. I am thinking of buying a Megs DA just cuz i want one....but since I don't detail for $$$, I'm holding off (you cannot have too many toys though)
