  • Product Plan for New DA Polisher: Need Input!

I'm buying myself my first DA Polisher (Meguiars G110v2) and wanted some input on my plan of products.

My paint is in pretty good shape. I don't have any swirls in the paint and besides for scratches and rock chips it's in good shape. This was my plan for the G110:

    1.Wash/Dry/Clay
    2. Meguiar's Ultimate Compound (Lake Country 5.5" Orange Cutting Pad)
    3. Meguiar's Ultimate Polish (Lake Country 5.5" White Polishing Pad)
    4. Meguiar's #7 Glaze (Lake Country 5.5" Black Finishing Pad)
    5. Meguiar's #26 High Tech Wax (CCS 6.5 Black Finishing Pad)

What do you guys think of this setup? I'm really just looking for a smooth finish with a quicker turnaround then using my hands. I'm slightly concerned because I see some posts about guys having trouble with added swirl marks or marring and such with the G110. Just don't wan't to mess up my paint...

    to MOL!

Congrats on your g110v2 purchase. It's a very well built machine with good power. This is totally safe to use and it won't induce swirl marks or marring provided you use the proper technique.

What color is your paint? What year is your vehicle? Do you have pictures of your paint to show it's swirl-free?

If your paint is swirl-free, then you don't need to use step 2 (Ultimate Compound with LC orange). Also, I would eliminate step 4 because ultimate polish is very rich in polishing oils. You can try to do a test spot in your car with the M7 show car glaze with the LC black pad after step 3 and see if there's a difference. If there's a difference then go at it. If not then there's no point in doing step 4 especially if there's no added benefit.

So here will be my steps:
    1. Wash/Dry/Clay
    2. Ultimate Polish with LC White
    3. M26 with LC grey

If you ever had your car at automatic wash you have some swirls. Look at it in bright sunlight. Your process #1,2,and 3 are fine. After your #3 I would use you favorite wax.

Sounds like a good plan, except you are doubling up with the use of UP then #7. Use either one or the other.

I'd suggest probably UP as it has some mild cleaning ability and may be able to clean up any marring which UC might leave behind.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Thanks a lot guys! I see that step 4 is overkill if I use the UP. I have been to the car wash before so I must have swirls ha. I guess with my color paint it just doesn't show at all. I guess I'l cut out the #7 Glaze.

So do I have the possibility to make swirls more noticeable with this process? Is that user error?

I have found that some defects seem to get worse before they go away. But as far as swirls, not really, unless some previous wax/dirt was hiding them.

As mentioned, even if you need the UC, you dont want the cutting pad. That can leave some marring.

So you think I should go with the UC with a white pad and then go to the UP with a white pad as well?

Re: Product Plan for New DA Polisher: Need Input!

I would want a test spot with UP to see. Then UC is needed.

Not as familiar with LC pads, but yes, polishing for both.

Preferably a seperate pad for each.

Good idea with the test first. I was definitely thinking separate pads for each step. Just meant same color.
