I recently detailed a friends Sapphire Black BMW 335 using the Microfiber DA System and a PC 7424XP, I also topped the M301 with Meguiars #21 Sealant using a Meguiars black finishing pad. I used all recommended speeds on the PC during use. After the initial detail the paint looked really good in the sun, still had some small defects but no hologramming. A week later after washing the car using a two bucket method lots of holograms started to show up on the vertical surfaces of the car. What could I have done to cause this and why did it not show up right after polishing? Any tips for reducing holograms and maybe getting rid of the ones now on the car?

Re: Hologramming with Microfiber DA System
The paint could have been soft and using the D300 with the MF cutting disc could have caused the micro-marring. I've had this happen to me on a black C6 Corvette. The D301 step is supposed to clear it up so I'm not sure why it washed away after your first wash. Is the hazing only on the vertical surfaces and not the horizontal surfaces? I used M205 on a black finishing pad to clear up the hazing created from the D300 step.2011 Car Crazy Showcase SEMA Team

It could be DA haze, though unlikely on BMW paint, or it could just be streaking...hard to say without pics though.
EDIT: Did you prime your pad with D300 before using it?

Re: Hologramming with Microfiber DA System
I don't have any pictures of the car right now, I'll try to get some if I can. I did prime the pad and actually used your blog post on DI as instructions for the process. I thought it might be streaking because I did see some during my initial polish but cleaned it up with some quick detailer, that's why I was surprised that the marring or holograms showed up after a wash. I am only seeing the marring on the vertical surfaces, not on the hood or the trunk.

Re: Hologramming with Microfiber DA System
Here is an example of the haze on another friends car that I worked on (British Racing Green Mini). Any ideas on how to better prevent this and would a light finish polish get this out or is something more aggressive needed?

Re: Hologramming with Microfiber DA System
Perhaps I'm not seeing it, but that looks like a scrape or a scuff and not a haze. To me it's got an abrupt start or stop on the right and fades out on the left.

Re: Hologramming with Microfiber DA System
It isn't a scrape or scuff, it's similar to a hologram in that it's only seen in direct sunlight and moves when changing your viewing angle on the door panel. Also the paint is smooth and looks good when not in direct sunlight. There are multiple examples on this door panel but it was tough to capture it with my camera and with the lighting available to me.

Re: Hologramming with Microfiber DA System
As David said, I too was thinking scuff/scrape. But that ain't it, so here is just an idea.
It almost looks like left over product, with that in mind, take a Q-Tip or similar with a bit of alcohol and see it moves or is removed. Just do a small (tiny) spot.
Like I said, just a wild a**ed guess.

Re: Hologramming with Microfiber DA System
Last wk I did some work on my car also Black. I used D300 and correct speed, BUT I moved to fast and I had all kinds of holograms. Followed up with Ultimate polish and it cleaned them right up. To remove haze use your sponge polishing pad and Ultimate polish. You have to take your time and do a small section at the time. Just my 2 cents.

If you had it outside and there was no swirls and then topped it with a wax there should not be any problems after a week and doing a proper wash. That is of course if he used the right wash media and soap...
