  • meguiars products with griots da and pads

I have a 2009 honda accord coupe in the color polished metal metallic. The paint is in almost new condition with only very slight swirls and towel marks. I would like to have the paint have a little more pop and depth to it. I have a groits da and have their orange polish and red wax pads. I would like to stay with their pads. I have swirl X and ultimate polish in my collection of meg's products. Would I use the orange pad with the swirl x or is that too aggressive? Or use ultimate polish with the red pad? Could I use both the swirl x and the ultimate polish with the red pad? I don't want to use a combination of pad and product that would be to harsh, keeping in mind that the paint is in almost new condition. thanks

I have the Griot DA with both red & orange pads....I used the orange with swirlX to remove some scuff marks off my bumper, worked great (2011 Impreza) and helped my friend remove a scuff mark off his 2008 Mazda 3 mirrior, looked brand new.
I find the red pad to be very soft...so I'm not sure it would be effective...I suppose you could give it a shot to see how the UP & swirlX work with a red GG pad.
I think with the correct technique with the orange pad, you should be ok....just adjust the pressure & speed of the DA

SwirlX or even Ultimate Compound with their orange pad would be best for defect removal, generally at speed 5 on the tool but you can reduce the level of cut by using a slightly lower speed, less pressure or a combination of the two. The red pad with Ultimate Polish should be a great combo since you want a very non invasive pad when doing that finish polish step - we routinely use our black finishing pads for this step and then swap to a fresh black pad for applying wax. In your case that would obviously mean UP with one red pad, and then your wax or sealant with a fresh red pad. UP should be used at speed 3 to 4, wax at speed 3.

First post here. And reviving an old thread as I am in a similar situation. I also am ending up with a Griot's Garage 6 inch DA, but am used to Megiuar's products from a long time ago, and am intending on using them now. I have some leftover paste wax I intend on using and have enjoyed the threads here on how to do that with the DA. After reading this thread, I am going to use Ultimate Compound for some heavier stuff, then Ultimate Polish, then the Meguiar's paste wax. I will be doing the other maintenance including claying and etc. too, and changing up my washing routines based on the stuff I have learned here.

I will be working on a new to me but 10 year old VW Passat TDI wagon, metallic midnight blue. It has some fairly heavy scratching on the hood and a bit on one fender, some lighter scratching here and there, some water stains, and i am sure some swirl. Frankly, the car will be detailed to start me off. But in the interest of not trying to make everything perfect at once and being too aggressive thereby, I am sure there will be some work to do as time goes on. I will also be working on my new to us but 10 year old, (but with much better maintained paint) Suby OBXT in dark silver. And our beater family suburban. We are re-doing all our cars as our kids have aged is why the sudden interest again in car maintenance.

But my question is this: Once things are cleaned up a bit, if I want do some polishing but do not need to be so aggressive, is SwirlX the consumer version of a polish that is less aggressive than UC/105, that one could finish with UP, then wax? I will have a 3 pack of the orange Griots pads, a black finishing pad for the UP, and a red pad for the wax. I am also toying with the idea of getting a 3.5 inch backing plate and 4 inch pads as well. Does that sound like a good plan? Anything I am missing in getting started?

Ok, thanks. Looks like next time I will get M205 for a finishing polish. Still not sure what to get for a corrective polish other than using UC and starting out easy.

Ok thanks. That helps. Still a little unclear as to what to use in between UC and UP, but maybe next time I just get M205 instead of UP.
