  • A question regarding Meguiar's Pads and backing plates and other DA polishers

Hi everyone....I have a quick question. I am looking into purchasing a DA polisher and i was wonder if the Meguiar's 7 inch backing plate works on other models or does it only fit on a G110V2?
Seeing their heads turn as you drive by is payment enough.

The W68DA will fit other D/A polishers. All dual action polisher backing plates are cross compatible with each D/A polisher.

Yes they all have 5/16 x24 threaded shaft. No they are not METRIC,,LOL
If I may recommend stay with 5" pads and backing plate. You will find that 5" is much easier to use and will keep your pad spinning unlike some 7".

The S3BP will not fit the 3401. They have their own proprietary geared backing plate. Lake Country will be coming out with a 4" BP for the 3401 in late February.

If you're going to be using our Soft Buff 2.0 pads then you definitely want to use our W68DA backing plate as they are designed to work together. That backing plate will fit all popular DA tools on the market.

If you're using a G110v2 or the GG6 tool you won't have issues with 7" pads. We use them all the time in our classes and routine detailing sessions and pad spin is not an issue. Less torquey buffers may have issues with these pads, but not the more potent tools.

I'm now confused here .. If W68DA will fit 3401 why the Megs 3" BP will not?

Both have the same thread, if I'm not mistaken?!?!

The W68DA will not fit the 3401. The 3401 has its own proprietary "geared" backing plate and no other backing plate will fit the 3401 except the BPs that are designed for it. The 3401 is a different type of D/A because it has a forced rotation feature. Standard D/A's (such as the G110v2, G110, G100, Griot's Garage 6", PCXP, PC7424, etc) have backing plates that are cross compatible with each other. These D/A's have the same thread and a backing plate for one D/A will fit all D/A's in the list. The backing plates that will fit the standard D/A's are: W68DA, W67DA, S6BP, S3BP (all from Meguiar's), Lake Country 6", 5", 3.5", & 3", the stock GG6 BP, etc.

What Mike was trying to point out was that the W68DA was designed to be used for the Softbuff 2.0 7" pads. It'll operate most effectively when the W68DA backing plate is used with a standard D/A, and not with the 3401.

Also I'm keen to try the megs 2.0 7" pad on the Flex .. with its standard BP which is about 6".

I actually like the feel of the Softbuff 2.0 7" pads on the Flex 3401. The BP doesn't full extend to the recessed part of the foam pad but I feel it's good enough. The best sized pad to use with the 3401 are the 6.5" pads.

Thanks for clearing that up for everyone, Marc.

When we said the W68DA will fit all popular DA tools, we meant it. But the Flex 3401 is not a DA, it's a forced rotation tool and therefore excluded from the "all popular DA tools" category.

It was confusing mentioning "all popular DA tools" .. I thought that the Flex belong there as well (regardless of its forced rotation, as its still classified as a DA with forced rotation ...

Thanks for clearing everything up everyone. Since I'm here in Canada it's been difficult to find Meguiar's products for enthusiasts like me.

It currently looks like my plan of attack will be the GG 6" DA with Meguiar's pads since I don't feel comfortable using my Meguiar's products ( UC, Deep Crystal Polish, NXT 2.0) with other pads.
