Couple questions:
- how do you clean those pads during detailing/ polishing (on the fly, nylon brush) ?
- what backing plate do you use
- do you ever go to speed 6 for extended period of time ?
- how do you clean 8204 after detailing/ polishing (what detergent, washing and drying temperatures).
Never use a buffing pad which is even little wet - the steam will cause serious problems very quickly.
When you say it has completed over 40 jobs - do you mean entire vehicles? that's quite a bit..

I own a silver vehicle and a black vehicle owns me. The black one demands attention, washing, detailing, waxing and an occasional dinner out at a nice restaurant. The silver one demands nothing and it looks just fine. I think the black vehicle is taking advantage of me, and the silver car is more my style. We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.
Hmm, maybe it is the picture but that pad sure looks old. The way the foam is tattered around the edges, the not-so-bright yellow and the fact that it appears to be soft in the middle looks more like an aged pad. Are you sure you didn't throw an older one on there by accident?
I have never seen anything like that on a new pad... heavily used pads can fail after some time and use, though.
We have to say that's a new one on us - we've never seen one of these pads fail like this. We suggest you contact either the store where you purchased the item or contact our Australian distributor for a replacement. It's really hard to state definitively what caused this (especially since we've never seen it happen before), but with the number of jobs you've done using similar pads you know that this is an unusual occurrence.

Thank you Master, even my old 4" pads are in excellent shape. I have ( nearly) abandoned the other pad sizes and only use the 4" one.
I'm sure this is due to material failure and will surely contact megs Australia.
Did they look after you? They've been pretty good with me in the past...

Did you get the original pad shipped over from the US via AG or equivalent?
