  • A few simple questions...

I just got my DA G110V2 this week and I got the new M/F pads - DMC5 and DMF5 along with the W67DA backing plate. I have a few questions regarding the products:

    1) I have seen some posts discussing this but most refer to the old soft buff 2.0 pads, can we wash the new M/F pads in the washing machine? and does Meguiar's recommend it? If not, what is the official recommendation?

    2) I've read that generally waxes and polishes are on speed settings 1-3, and that abrasives/cleaners are from 4-6 (rarely ever 6). I also read somewhere that with the new M/D system the speeds should be lower. Ie. 3-4 for cleaning - is this true?

    3) Can other meguiar's products be used with the M/F pads safely (Ie. Ultimate compund, swirl-x, Ultimate Wax etc.)? Is this the best way, or should soft buff 2.0 be used for those products?

    ---

    4) This question has nothing to do with the DA, but I'll stick it in here to avoid creating another topic. I've seen in some detailing videos that people have this sort of like Meguiar's tent or something, in order to create shade in an otherwise non shady area. I normally clean my car in the alley way behind my house and shade is not readily available - so I am interested in this. Anyone know where I could get something like it, or something else that would serve the same purpose?

Once again: Thank you for all the help in advance!

The part number for the tent is, ST001. I have no idea what the cost is of this bad boy, but I too wouldn't mind to have one as well. Our house always is in the sun and it is a real pain the butt to wash it and it would be nice to have a Meguiar's Signaturerized(yeah i know its not a word) detail tent.

I haven't tried any of the other products with the MF system, so I'll avoid any attempt at answering that question.

Machine washable and in line with the official Meguiars recommendation. Keep in mind that regular cleaning during use is just as important as cleaning after use. Use a pad conditioning brush or compressed air regularly during use to keep the pad surface "fluffy" and free of product and paint build up.

MF compound - speed 4 on the G110V2, with moderate to firm pressure and slow arm speed.
MF Finishing Wax - speed 3 on the G110V2, with light (machine weight only) pressure and faster arm speed.

Thanks for chiming in! The answers are appreciated.

Does anybody else have any feedback, particularly concerning question #3 (M/F pads with Ultimate Line products)?

With regards to question #4 - CanadianTire had a sale on tarps the other day. I managed to get two 20' x 20' tarps at like 60% off. Both cost a total of like $40. I will use that for shade as opposed to a tent.

I have used the MF system with ultimate compound and got some good results and I've heard of other people on here using other products with them including M105/M205 and other products. Personally, I still prefer the compound that comes with it.
They are not really recommended but you can always experiment.

Absolutely! Toss both pads in the washer and dryer, medium to low heat for both, and have a few microfiber towels in with them to help with the cleaning process. Don't be surprised to see the cutting disc come up cleaner looking than the finishing disc as the finishing wax is harder to fully wash out and may stain the microfibers a bit. No worries though, it's still good to go.

When using the DA Microfiber Correction System we recommend, on a DA, to use 4800opm for cutting and 3800opm for finishing. On our G110v2 these speeds are obtained at speed settings 4 and 3, respectively. Same holds true on the GG6", but on our older tools or the Porter Cable tools you'll want to go up one speed for each step.

Yes, you can always mix and match, but the time and effort that went into creating this system was extraordinary and you really should give the full system a shot as is. That said, there are times when a certain paint system may prefer a different liquid on the microfiber disc, or the microfiber may be overly aggressive and you want to use a foam pad to substitute for one of the steps. From personal experience on one specific car I found D300 Correction Compound to work beautifully on a W8207 Soft Buff 2.0 foam polishing pad.

Large hardware and even sporting goods stores, among others, often carry E-Z Up or similar tents (without our logo, of course) that collapse down to an easily transported or stored size. 10' x 10' is about as small as you'd want to go for detailing purposes, but 10' x 20' often works better. Expect to pay between $75 and $500 depending on size, brand, and configuration. Some are super easy to set up and take down, others require more assembly. The inexpensive ones often require a LOT of assembly and the parts tend to be weaker.

              Re: A few simple questions...

Thanks Mike! I'm definitely going to look into a detailing tent, because the tarps were an epic failure. Took a long time to set up and was easily influenced by the wind. $500 for a tent would be a little steep, but I don't mind dishing out like $200. I guess I can check out places like Sports Expert and Atmosphere here in Quebec.
