  • GG mini polisher

Just a thought as I'm just interested in detailing my own 3 vehicles....not really thinking of doing detailing on the weekends for extra $$$.

I have a Griot's garage mini 3" polisher which I plan on using to polish each of my vehicles, would there be any issues working on large panels such as hoods, roofs...etc with a smaller 3" or 4" pad?
I would assume it would just mean a bit more work since the pads are smaller than the standard 6"-7" pads. I'm pretty sure since i will be using smaller pads, there will be more "energy" on a smaller area (3" pad versus 7" pad)

Anyone else using a smaller pad on their entire vehicle?

Or should I just buy the Megs 6 pack from ADS since $$$ is not an issue....thanks for the input !!

    Re: GG mini polisher

IF your vehicles need nothing more than a light cleaner and wax or sealant you might get away with using the GG 3"er for a whole vehicle. Forget about 4" pads for anything except spreading wax or sealant, the polisher isn't stout enough to keep a 4" pad spinning for much else. Don't expect much in the way of correction even with a 3" pad. Yeah, you can do spot work with decent results if you're patient and have perfect technique... but if you're trying to remove swirls from an entire vehicle the 3"er is not the tool for the job.

Give it a try on a small test spot. I think you'll come to the same conclusion.

If you're looking for any correction at all you really need a full size DA... I recommend the GG 6" or Megs 110v2 with 5.5" pads.

Half the diameter equals a quarter the surface area. So it's reasonable to expect anything to take at least four times longer.

Yes, you'll concentrate the machine's energy in a smaller area. But it also has less power in the first place. More importantly, it has a shorter throw, making the orbits smaller. So expect it to take even longer.

Since you already have the machine you might as well give it a try. Depending on the condition of your vehicles (and how patient you are) it might work out for you.

I have a GG3 and use it for curved areas and for polishing glass. I use a GG6 for everything else for the reasons stated in posts #2 & 3 above.

I would rate my G35 & Subie to be in mint cond.....not much correction needed. I'll give it a shot with just the GG3....but I think I will likely end up buying the Megs 110 v2 6 pk at ADS or the GG6....I'm just lookin for excuses to buy some more toys...lol
