  • DA microfiber system

    Hi,

I would like to know if the microfiber system is ok for my cars. I Have a 1994 4runner, 2000 Civic and a 2006 grand caravan. I want to start with the 4runner as its the oldest and its black. I has a lot of deep scratches and a lot of 'web' marks. I know I wont get the same results as if I was using sanding paper and/or a rotary. I have 2 brand new but I'm affraid to use them as the paint is old and I dont want to burn thru. I'll be waiting for your replys.

    thanks

    Re: DA microfiber system

    Apologies for missing this originally.

Yes, the DA Microfiber System is a suitable choice for all three vehicles. Just remember to keep the discs clean using either compressed air or a pad brush after every section you work. Don't surprised to see dramatically different results initially on these three paint systems. The compound and cutting disc can create some hazing while removing defects, and that hazing can range from very light to fairly heavy - but quite often there's no haze at all following the cutting step. Any haze you may create will be quickly removed with the finishing wax/finishing disc. Keep the DA at speed 4 for cutting, 3 for finishing, and don't be afraid to use quite a bit of pressure and very slow arm speed over the paint when working on these cars. Each may require a slight adjustment in pressure or arm speed, so a quick test spot on each is probably in order.

As for worrying about burning through the paint on the older vehicle, unless you know that this paint has been repeatedly and aggressively buffed in the past and the paint is very thin, you should have nothing to worry about. We had someone attend a TNOG session with a mid '80s Mercedes SL with original single stage blue paint, and the DA Microfiber System did a beautiful job restoring the finish without a hint of damage. And this was in the hands of a complete novice, too.
