  • MF System VS Cutting Pad and UC

Which one is going to correct defects faster? The reason that I ask is that I have a g110v2 and a wide selection of pads, and now I have read about this new system and I don't know wether its worth investing in. Does it actually cut faster or does it just take a 3 step process (Compound, Polish, Wax)and turn it into a 2 step one?

If your cars are in good shape already, probably wont matter.

The MF pads will do more correction without leaving as much/if any marring if you needed the heavy cleaning.

Keep in mind you can also try the MF pads with your current products.

The new Microfiber Correction System cuts much faster than Ultimate Compound and a cutting pad and leaves a finish that is almost ready for wax. It also takes a 3 step system and puts into 2 steps thereby saving time on the extra step and removing defects faster.

Definitely worth investing in if you have the money and vehicles in need of a lot of correction. However, Ultimate Compound and a cutting pad will do a lot of correction by itself but the new system just adds more cut.

As Murr said, you can use Ultimate Compound with the microfiber pads also if you want.

I'm just learning the D/A MF system and I would give it a slight edge. Seems faster, uses less product and a little less cleanup.

However, I'm glad I learned the other system first. I think I learned more about the unique characteristics of paint and different correction products and processes. This I hope makes me better at paint correction.

If you are only doing one or two different cars, you may only need to know them and what corrects or maintains them. If you already have the supplies for one method, I would suggest using them up before buying new.

I might also say Meguiar's does not recommend the red cutting pad with a DA.

Post some info or even pictures of your car(s) and I'm sure you'll get some varying opinions.

        Good luck.

            Short answer: no

Long answer: no one is going to stop you from experimenting, just don't have expectations that may not be possible. Or you create some damage or ruin some supplies.

So I want to get something straight, and this seems like it would be a good place to ask my question.

Comparing the levels of the most aggressive products from the LEAST to the GREATEST, is this correct?

              1) Ultimate Compound, Ultimate Polish, etc.
              2) M105/205
              3) M300/301 (Microfiber System)

Re: MF System VS Cutting Pad and UC

I was told that the agressiveness is arranged as follows:
                Ultimate Compound < D300 < M105

but i guess thats just on the product alone. their behaviour changes when used with different pads.

Re: MF System VS Cutting Pad and UC

While we're always fine with people experimenting by using a product in a way different from it's design intent (M105 on a DA is a classic example of this) we won't hesitate to tell you when such experiments are a lost cause. Using the DA Microfiber System on a rotary is one of those times - don't waste your time; you won't like the outcome. It will haze the paint very badly and just end up frustrating you. Even on a forced rotation tool like the Flex 3401 the level of hazing can be quite high since that isn't a true DA movement. A rotary just makes matters worse.

As for overall cutting ability of M105, D300 and UC, we'd put them in that order. But M105 is probably the most versatile of the three in the sense that you can use it with anything from a rotary buffer and wool pad spinning at 1800 rpm to remove 1000 grit sanding marks, all the way down to a polishing pad on a DA at speed 4 to remove light swirls (although this is probably not the best way to remove light swirls). That versatility can cause some overlaps with regard to "total cut". For example; while M105 in and of itself has more cutting ability than D300, if you run M105 on a W8207 Soft Buff 2.0 polishing pad on a DA at speed 4 with moderate pressure, that combination will give less "total cut" than D300 on a DMC5 microfiber cutting disc at speed 4 on a DA with heavy pressure.
