  • Meguiars G110 DA Polisher as a Sander ?

Did a search and couldn't really find any answers.

I have a Meguiars G110 DA polisher to polish and wax my car.
This summer, I plan to repaint my garage doors so I am wondering if I can use the G110 as a sander to remove the old paint from the garage doors.

    1. Do I just need a new backing plate and sand paper that attaches itself to the backing plate?
    2. Would I be able to get these from the local home depot?
    3. Any other things/tips I should know when using the G110 as a sander?

    Thanks.

Gonna stick my neck out here and say, go for it.

The original DA's started their life out as a sander. You'll have to get a different backing plate. The thread size is universal 5/16-18.

Guessing here, probably Home Depot, Lowe's, etc will have what you need. If not them, try a 'better' auto parts store that carries sanding discs and the like for auto sanding (they will be more expensive...LOL).

Also, do you have an air compressor? Gonna need it when you are finished sand to get the wood out.

    Hope this helps...

Bill is on the money here - the original Porter Cable 7424 that has been so popular for years in the auto detailing world started life as a sander. It was later adapted for use as a buffer.

Backing plates and sanding media should be readily available through a variety of sources.
