    When To Use Foam Cutting Pad

    I noticed that on the product and pad chart that the only pads it lists are the 8006 and the 9006. Are there ever any instances when one would use the Foam cutting pad along with the G-100 and some certain products.

    the W-7006 is not recommended for use with the PC. I used one time on a clear coat failed car with good results. I think the results were a function of the polishing oils more so than the foam pad though. There is a specific reason not to use the cut pad... I can't seem to recall why. Hazing or pulling the pad off the backing plate or something.

      I was just curious because I noticed they made a 6.5 inch cutting pad which I thought that size was made for the DA though I could be wrong

        some rotary users prefer the smaller 6 in pads as they are easier to control rather than the 10 in pads. Good question.

          Meguiar's doesn't recommend using our cutting pad with the dual action polisher as it is too aggressive and will often times leave the finish hazy looking. This foam is specifically formulated to replace wool pads as an aggressive cutting foam pad. Typically this pad is used in body shops for removing sanding marks after wet-sanding.

          It does work well under a bonnet for removing wax however because of its extra stiffness. Because it's maroon in color, its easy to tell apart from your polishing and finishing pads so that you recognize it as a pad dedicated for use with your bonnets. Sometimes people make the mistake placing a bonnet over a used polishing pad and this contaminates one side of the bonnet if the residue in the pad is dry or saturates the bonnet if the pad is wet. By having a dedicated pad, (that's easily recognizable), for use only with your bonnets you will always have a clean, dry pad for bonnet use.

            Mike's going to say you shouldn't do this, but I've done it and it works. It can work as part of a severe finish repair; you use the 7006 and #83 to scuff up the paint, then the 8006 and #83 again or #80 to repair the scuffing. The camera angles are chosen to be advantageous, sure, but the results nevertheless are real:






            Also, it took a really, really long time, most of a day, because the PC isn't even a fifth as powerful as the rotary.
            I think it would be safe to say that if you do it it's your own responsibility; you can also mess it up pretty good, I'd expect.

              I have used the marron cutting pad with #83 and a PC. I can tell you that it leaves lots of hazing behind. Meguiars does not recomend it an this is the reason why. It works to get out thoes tough scratches, but you have to have other products or skill to remove the hazing. I had to follow it with a light cutting pad from Lake country (orange) and #83 then final polish with #80 and a polishing pad.
