Is it safe to use a DA polisher with some 105 or Ultimate Compound on plastic taillamps? Any danger of melting the plastic?

Re: Removing spiderwebs & scratches from tailights
You posted this in the Rotary section, but asked about a DA. I just want to clarify, why machine do you intend to use?
Either way, the plastic should correct fairly quickly and easily. For mild damage I find M205 and a polishing pad on a rotary to do the trick quite quickly. PlastX is another product to try. If the swirls are deep, you can use the M105, and you may or may not need to follow with M205 or PlastX to refine the finish a bit.

I was just worried that the plastic could "melt" with the heat and friction generated by a high-speed buffer.
Not likely, and you can achieve an excellent result in rejuvenating your lights.
