  • Upgrade to Flex?

So I have a PC 7424 and am wondering if dropping the $300+ on the Flex is worth it?

I keep my car (06 Lexus IS350) in nice shape, rarely any significant defects to fix. I don't do any other detailing..just my own car.

So will the Flex give me noticeable better polishing results than the PC? Or will I just get the job done in a shorter period of time?

I wouldnt spend the money on a better polisher. Your PC already fits the bill for your needs. I would much rather invest in the new D/A sytem and some UW given your curcumstance. Or maybe refill your current collection of wax or accessories etc.

You may not need that upgrade.

Meguiar's DA MF Correction System works like Flex 3401 - closes the gap between rotary buffers and DA polishers by offering high level of paint correction.

Especially that you don't have a high amount of detailing jobs - just your own car.

Like what everyone else said, I wouldn't even bother buying the Flex 3401 now because of the Microfiber System. It gives you rotary like results with the D/A!

Just like Greg said. The D/A system isnt really needed for your car. But you can look into it or go through your current inventory and replacing whats needed or adding new products. A new Flex would be cool but I have a feeling that the want would out place the need in your situation.

You won't get a "better" shine with it, but it can get through some tougher defects faster than a DA when both are using the same pads and liquids. But since you're only taking care of your own vehicle(s) and the paint is always in good to great shape, you probably won't see any time gain.

The DA Microfiber Correction System the others have mentioned here is best used with a DA rather than the forced rotation motion of the Flex 3401, but again, if your paint is always kept to a high standard, you probably don't need the extra cut offered by the DA Microfiber system anyway.

See, this is the problem with being addicted to detailing but only working on your own car - you just don't have a real need for a wide range of products in your arsenal. Once you dial in a system to remove defects and achieve a very high gloss finish, you're pretty well set. Sure, you can experiment a bit, but at what cost overall? When taking care of just one or two vehicles, do you really need 4 compounds, 5 polishes and 20 waxes? We see people who do this, and often times they end up listing a few of them for sale later on because they don't use them any more. But we get addicted to the joy of detailing, and the draw of new products is strong and we want to experience them all!!!

I'm guilty of this myself. I have more waxes than I'll ever need. LOL!
