FWIW, my G100 is almost 5 years old and still runs like a champ, no maintenance, no repairs, no issues...and has worked on dozens of cars...it's as dependable as my dog...

Technically, Meguiar's isn't competing with Porter Cable simply because there are no G110v2s to sell.

By the way, my original G100 came with a lifetime warranty (purchased direct from Meguiar's). When it blows up, I expect to get current G110vXs for life, right?

Does that mean that Wal-Mart is also a competitor of Meguiar's because they have their own brand of car wash soap that is sold in competition to Meguiar's car wash soap? Try looking up some NAICS codes if you want to see who is a competitor of who...

Why is this proving such an issue to everyone. As Mike states, Meguiars would love to have the tool to sell to as many people as can be but they can't supply just at the moment. No hidden agenda, they are being pretty upfront here.

The way I see it is there are two options:

1. Wait until it is back in stock
2. Buy another suppliers brand

I have heard great things about the G110 V2, but have never owned one or used one. I use a Hitachi unit, love it, and have a spare of the same brand and model. Does a great job. I use all Meguiars products with it, pads and compounds/polishes/waxes and the results are superb.

When a company is as good on a whole with customer service as Meguiars is, surely we can lighten up on them when the very occasional glitch occurs?

Just because one company sells a product that another makes, does not mean they are main competitors. Wal-Mart buys and sells other brands of the same product type in their stores. If they were truly competing with everyone else as you are suggesting, why would they do that? It doesn't make any sense.

The codes aren't irrelevant either. If they aren't in the same industry, they really aren't main competitors. McDonald's and Ruth's Chris Steak House are both restaurants, but hardly competitors. If you were to actually do a competitive analysis of a company, the codes are quite important as they tell you who your true competitors are. I've only studied these very things in college under Ph.D. professors for my degree. What would I know about it...

Well, we said we'd keep you guys in the loop and we are. So there's a bit of mixed news here:

We have a fresh shipment of G110v2 buffers arriving at our distribution center as this is being typed. It's going to take a couple of days for them to be properly packaged up - backing plates and canvas bags added to the packaging - and then these are going to a small handful of retails. We will not have any available for sale on meguiarsdirect.com from this shipment. Also, we can't say for sure how many of these will be used to fulfill backorders previously placed with the online retailers who will be getting them. That is, if a retailer has 100 backorders waiting in their queue and we ship them 110 units, they'll only have 10 available for sale. And yes, those two numbers are for reference only - just making a point here, so don't read anything into those numbers!!!!!

Two more shipments are following close on the heels of this one so it should be just a matter of a few more weeks before they're in, matched up with backing plates and canvas bags, and shipped off to retailers for sale.

Same store, same aisle, same target market, same target customer because he's standing in front of both products at the same time.

If you think a Porter Cable PC is not a direct competitor with a Porter Cable PC with a Meguiar's logo on it, may I make an argument against professor tenure? Half those Ph.ds are more like Bf.ds.

And, I'll match my BBA and MBA and university against yours. (3.97 and 4.00 GPAs back when 4.00 was as good as you could get.)

You mentioned the Porter Cable XP and G110, as is also the point of this thread; the G110. The G110 is not a Porter Cable unit. I never said the G100 wasn't a competitor of the Porter Cable unit, nor would I say they were competitors. Meguiar's had to buy the "G100" units from Porter Cable to then relabel and resell them. I don't see how you are competing with them if you bought the product from said company first and then resold it? Porter Cable got the sale either way; whether someone bought a unit that said Porter Cable or Meguiar's on the side. Feel free to make an argument against professor tenure; I'll join you on that one.

If you really believe that Wal-Mart is a competitor of Meguiar's, whatever. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

As for the schooling comments: 4.0 is still as good as you can get. The other stuff...don't care to get into it with you. Congrats on "winning" the internet tough guy game I guess?

Started with the thread title and the bolded first line of the opening post. I understand the OP is a new member and an enthusiastic young man, but a little respect should come into play.

Mike Stoops, Mike Pennington, Brian Hahn, and the rest of the crew at Meguiars do an awesome job of promoting the craft of detailing, and every Meguiars employee I have ever had the pleasure of meeting over the last two years has been a consummate pro and proud rep of the Meguiars line. Beyond that, these are a great group of guys with a sincere passion for detailing, and good folks overall with whom anyone would be proud to count as friends.

Maybe my point of view and opinion are old school, but in my experience you just don't shake down good friends or call them out in public, especially when they have helped all of us by enthusiastically sharing their wealth of knowledge and experience with all forum members, old timers and new members alike.
