Want to get in the DA Polisher Game

I have worked by hand for years and after reading the excellent write up on using the DA polisher, I am ready to jump in. What will I need to get started besides the DA polisher itself? I have pretty much decided on the G110 v2, but what should get along with it?

How many and what type of pads should I start with?

Do I need a special backing plate for the 4" pads?

Any advice is appreciated.

Well, you can buy a case of 6 pads from ADS, in any assortment you want.

1 cutting, 3 polishing ,and 2 finishing is reasonable.

And then just need a mild and strong cleaner. #205 and Ultimate Compound make for a good combo with the DA.

And yes, the 4" pads would have a separate backing plate. Dont want the plate to be overhanging or right at the edge of the pads.

Of course the microfiber system just came out, and is also an option, but I dont know as much about that.

It will be good to start with two polishing pads (W8207), and one or two finishing pads(W9207). You will find that having more pads on hand will be beneficial, as when doing a test spot you will be using multiple pads as you would not want to cross contaminate products. Our Soft Buff 2.0 pads can be cleaned in a household washing machine which is also very convenient.

For using Meguiar's 4 inch pads, you will need our 3 inch professional backing plate, the part # is S3BP.

Thanks for the information.

If I have a finish that does not require much correction, is it best to still use a product like Swirl X and just work it in less, or can I use some left over Step 1 Paint Cleaner?
