  • New to detail, but dont know what products and machines i need

Hey everyone as i said im a rookie in this, my car have TONS of swirl marks all over and couple scratches on the body.

I tried using the swirl X by hand but, it didnt turn out that well... i guess is because i didnt put enough time in doing so.... kinda get tired after awhile lol. So i do a crappy job after a while.

Im looking to buy a machine.... (Sorry idk what they r called) but i was told that the porter cable is really good... and when i tried looking that up on ebay eariler the day, some came with some pads and such... and i have no idea what they are...

So can someone tell me what machine is the best bang for my buck? And also what products i need? And different pads i will need to go along with the machine?

PS: I plan on claying my car and apply swirl X and polish and wax

Buy a DA ,Ultimate compound. M205 and ultimate Polish , M21 sealant

Also buy some Meguiars yellow polishing pads and black finishing pads

Use the ultimate compound at speed of 5 the proceed to M205 speed od of 4 or 5with a clean yellow polishing pad thpaint should be clean and swirl free.

then use M21 with black finishing pad at speed of 3.

now you have done this every six months use M205 then ultimate polish then M21.

Any reliable dual action (random orbital) machine would work: Porter Cable 7424 XP, Meguiar's G110v2 or Griot's Garage 6".

Meguiar's Soft Buff 2.0 polishing pads are long lasting and machine washable. They come in 7" and 4" diameter. Smaller ones are great for tight spaces. You need about 3-4 yellow polishing and black finishing pads. The matching backing plates for them are W68DA and S3BP.

To start your journey with machine polishing I would recommend products from Consumer Line: Ultimate Compound (paint cleaner), SwirlX or Ultimate Wax (cleaner polish), Deep Crystal Polish (pure polish) and wax of your choice/ preference: Ultimate Wax, Tech Wax 2.0 or Gold Class Carnauba Plus.

Also cleaner wax (all in one product: clean/ polish/ wax) may be helpful as well. ColorX is pretty good to start with.

            buy:
Griot's Garage 6" DA - more powerful than megs or pc
            5" backing plate
5.5 pads, I like the lake country hydro pads. you need atleast 2-4 compound(blue), 2-4 polish(orange) and 2 red(wax). you can get away with 2 of each color for one car, but pads get dirty, they drop, they get riped, so have some extras. or try the new meg microfiber system, reviews make it sound great.

            Ultimate compound or m105(blue pad)
meg m205 or ultimate polish (orange pad)
surbuff 5.5" pads, these pads have alot of cut.

wax collnite 845 or 3m performance finish sealant are what I use. super cheap, easy on/off, and last 4-6months.

I would suggest that you call Rick at Auto Detailing Solutions: (602) 317 9519. He deals principally in Meguiar's products but also carries other lines, too. Describe to him your needs and goals and see what kind of deal he can arrange for you.

Another alternative is to contact someone at AutoGeek: (800) 869-3011.

But talk to someone knowledgeable on the phone. Shop around.
