  • Real quick question for an extension cord

I want a 25-30 ft cord for my G110. I can't find my owners manual. So I don't know what AWG rating I should get.

    14 AWG minimum, I'd say.

      The definitive answer:

An undersized cord will cause a drop in line voltage resulting in loss of power and overheating. The following table shows the correct size to use depending on cord length. If in doubt, use the next heavier gauge."

For 120 volt unit (and similar tools drawing up to 6 amps):

Total length of cord, in feet/Rating gauge of wire (AWG)
      0-25 ft / 18 gauge
      26-50 ft / 16 gauge
      51-100 ft / 16 gauge
      101-150 ft / 14 gauge

Yeah, I wouldnt even be thinking of 18....

14 is nice if you get a good price on a long one.

It is always nice to have a good heavy duty extension cord and 14 is a good for many tools.

This is one time that, 'bigger IS better.'

Yea, the big stuff can get spendy...but in the long haul...well, you get my point.

It makes sense to get a 14. It's good to have a fat extension cord for soldering too. I liked that utilitech I had.

Re: Real quick question for an extension cord

I have a few high current draw power tools - circular saw, cutoff saw, compound miter saw, etc. and don't want to confuse light cords with heavier ones so I only buy 12 ga cords.

I've had good results with the Yellow Jacket brand. I typically grab a 12 or 14ga cord, minimum of 50'.
