  • Kestrel DAS-6 and Lake Country Pads

    Hi

I recently invested in a Kestrel Das 6 with a bunch of Lake Country Pads. Main reason being that the Meguiars DA and pads are expensive in NZ. Managed to get a super deal with a supplier in NZ for the Kestrel DAS 6 with Lake Country pads and also based on his recommendation and experience using these.

Tried my new toy on a test spot but did not find the combination that solved the problem. I'm trying to take out swirls, scratches on a black 2005 Ford Explorer.

Did not notice a dramatic difference. If anything, it made more marks. I'm now seeing little circle marks on the paint coming from the pads.

    Combinations I tried:

Lake country white polishing pad with swirlX, scratchX and UC.
Lake country orange cutting pad with all of the above.

    All of separate pads.

Did between 3-4 passes with pressure.

    No dramatic changes.

I'm wondering if this machine and pads are inferior and hence why I am not seeing the results I am expecting? Or maybe my technique?

Has anyone use this machine with these pads before? If so, any help would be appreciated.

Maybe I should have invested a bit more for the Meguiars DA and pads instead?

Or maybe Kestrel DAS6 with Meguiars pads?

    Thanks in advance.

Re: Kestrel DAS-6 and Lake Country Pads

    Hi mate,

I just purchased a Kestrel DAS-6 from the same supplier as you, I am currently in Singapore though and haven't had the chance to use it yet though.

2 days after I made my purchase the Meguiar's G220 D/A polisher actually was put up on special from the same supplier for only $340 (+ GST), so I'm a bit angry about that actually as I would've purchased that instead if he mentioned it would be.

I have a bunch of products on the way in from Autogeek in the states right now, including; Meguiar's 6.5" pads (3x beige, 3x yellow) and also Meguiar's 4.0" pads (2x black, 2x burgundy and 2x yellow). Once I get back home and have the chance to use them, I will let you know how they are in comparison to your Lake Country pads.
