I saw an article on this a while back. Mike Stoops explained how the 4" Meguiars pads can be used to apply a paste wax. In his scenario he used NXT 2.0 Paste and I also used NXT 2.0 Paste.
When first putting wax onto the pad, only rub it lightly against the wax as only a small amount is needed. I used a little too much at first which resulted in a thicker application to the hood than there was on the rest of the car. Not a big deal but it did happen.
I found that applying wax with the 4" black pad used very little wax. I felt like it used even less than when applying a liquid wax via DA. I did the entire hood, drivers side fender and drivers side door before applying a little more wax to the pad. I only applied wax to the pad 3 times and this proved sufficient to cover the entire car in a thin, even coat.
I also found the 4" pad much easier to use and spread wax with because I could roll with any curve on the car. Usually with the 7" black pad I have to spend more time on the more complex sections (where there are edges or curves).
Also, it was much easier to apply wax on and around the door handles. When applying wax with the 7" pad I can never get the entire surface covered with wax making it harder to apply wax in tighter areas. For example, with the 7" pad I usually have to somehow get the center of the pad to the area where the door handle meets the flat surface because the edges of the pad doen't have wax. The 4" pad made this job a breeze since it's smaller and the entire surface of the pad was covered with wax.
I waxed right after washing and drying so some of the water in the crevices dampened the 4" pad. The dampened pad made the wax spread a little easier. That is also why the black pad looks white in the pictures. The water made the wax stay on the pad more than on the paint or so it seemed. Maybe I will try a spritz of detail spray next time I do this.
It took me about 20 minutes to wax the car which isn't bad for me. When doing it by hand it usually takes me about 15 minutes and when using the 7" pads it takes me about 15 minutes. But, using the 7" pad on the smaller areas always results in me getting wax on the trim which is very annoying.
On to a few pics.

Overall, I think this is a very helpful process. It does take a little more time but I am willing to add 5 minutes for easier and better results IMHO.
Thanks for viewing.
