Re: Gonna use the DA Polisher for the First time

Well, I have to say the DA polisher is worth it's weight in gold. It took me all day Sunday to do my truck, but it was worth it. My truck had very bad oxidation on the hood and roof of the cab. But the DA and Ultimate compound worked great. All in all, took about 9hrs total to do the entire process. I took some before and after pics of my truck and as soon as I download them off my camera, I'll post them up here. Thanks for all the help guys.

Glad to hear it all worked so well for you and that you're this happy.

We'll just sit here quietly now until you get those pictures posted.

As promised, here are some before and after pics of my truck. Took me about 9hrs to do all this, and I was beat. Anyways here they are:

First is the really bad Oxidized hood, I really had lost all hope on correcting this:

        Another pic of it:

        1 more:

After: I was totally shocked by this:

Some more before shots of the rest of the truck:

This next pic is the tailgate, if you look closely u can see what looks like some oxidation under the handle of the tailgate. This was (and most of the problems with the finish) were the result of my brilliant friends "decorating" my truck w/ Vaseline at my wedding reception...over 10 years ago. I was livid...and it was raining that night!

        Before - Driver side door:

Here are some After pics, The sun was behind my house at this point, so it wasn't as shiny as before:

I only put one coat of wax (nxt 2.0), do you think a 2nd coat would do any good? All in all, on a 12 (almost 13) year old truck, not garaged, hardly ever waxed and washed...The DA Polisher and UC was amazing. My truck hasn't looked this good in a very, very long time.

          Great job, Krieg.

          What a difference.
You really restored this truck's paint reflection. And it's even more impressive that it was your first experience with DA polisher.
          Way to go.

You could add the second coat of Tech Wax for extended protection. Or if you prefer some extra gloss go with natural carnauba wax like Gold Class Carnauba Plus or M26 Hi Tech Yellow Wax. Either choice is fine.

OK, we have to ask - were your pads turning black as you worked on this truck, even when working on the areas that weren't in that bad of shape?

That's an amazing turnaround, first timer or not!! Nicely done!

Yeah, if it was a clear-coat, I would fear that hood damage may not be permanently gone.

              Great job though.

That is a very nice job on that truck. It looks 100 times better. That damage from the hood may come back again as it looked like clear coat failure (assuming it was clear coat).

LOL, actually my pads weren't that bad...just kept cleaning them often. However, towards the end, my pad was getting pretty saturated no matter how often I seemed to clean them. Good news is, my other two cars are in much better shape, so I won't have to go through something this hard for awhile, (hopefully)

I'm hoping it's not I was hoping it was just oxidation.

Thanks Michael, so tell me, do you think my clear coat failed on the hood?
