  • Pc 7346???

I'm down in Florida and a couple detail jobs have popped up, if I can find a buffer and some pads. I noticed Lowes is selling a Porter Cable "Sander/Polisher" model number 7346. I know some folks on here have the 7336 they got from Lowes last year on closeout.... I wonder if this is just this years model or if it's different. The specs on PC's website show it to be exactly the same as the 7424XP basically. I'm just seeing if anyone else on here has one of these, and if it is in fact the same machine.

    Tanks in advance.

That's kinda what I'm thinking... Here it is (compared to other PC's) on Porter Cable's site.

If I remember right, Lowes was selling them for $119.

Nice price. Check specs just to make sure. They did change model numbers when the otherwise same machine would come with certain accessories.

Basically the same thing and usually the only difference is the counterweight and/or the accessories that come with it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but just like Imacarnut says, The 7346SP is the Sanding version while the XP is the car paint version!

That crossed my mind, as Ima said.... the counterweights could be different. Or, it just comes with a sanding disc backing plate instead of a polishing pad. (This particular model actually comes with BOTH).

                Re: Pc 7346???

Upon further inspection of all 4 models in the Porter Cable line-up.... I think I've answered my own question. lol Here's the break down, as I can decipher it from PC's site:

7424- The famous "original" model w/ a 4amp motor. Comes with the polishing pad ONLY

7336SP- The original model for SANDING w/ a 4amp motor. It only includes the sanding backing plate.

7424XP- This is the NEW, more powerful (4.5AMPS) model everyone is switching to (including Meguiars and Griot's). This has only a polishing pad included...

7346SP- This is EXACTLY the same as the 7424XP, but it includes BOTH the sanding bp and the polishing pad. It has the same 6" counterweight as the 7424XP and the same "orbits per min" capability (2,500-6,800opm).

....... Anyone else agree? Anyone have one of these 7346's?

                  Re: Pc 7346???

Sure looks to be the exact same tool as the 7424XP, just with the extra sanding backing plate.

One would assume there's a typo or two in the weights/shipping weights listed though. It seems weird that there's a half pound difference in weight between the two, or that the shipping weights are that far off one another. Everything else, however, appears absolutely identical between the two.

This is my first post here, but I figured helping someone out is more important than starting off with an introduction.

I purchased the unit you're looking at from lowes, and I can attest that it is identical to the 7424xp. The only difference is the 6" counterweight as opposed to the 5" in the 7424xp, but there is no real difference in feeling. Same size motor. Also Comes with sanding pads and necessary backing plates for that setup.

Not the way I like to start out on a forum, but I figured you were looking for an answer from someone's experience. I hope it helped.

Both Meg's and Griot's have moved away from Porter-Cable. Each is having their machine made to their own specifications by other manufacturers.

It DID help, Spud.... Thanks so much for posting up and WELCOME to the forum!

I looked on the parts list and it shows the counterweight (figure 26) as showing TWO different part numbers.... 874011 (same part counterweight as the 7424XP and for 5" pads) and 699933 (6" pad counterweight). Here's the link:

They didn't happen to include BOTH in the box, did they?

No sir, the only counterweight included with this machine is already installed on it. The 5" counterweights are purchasable from Autogeek, maybe a distributor just created a package containing both? I cant imagine why however, I personally cant feel much of difference between the two. I know quite a few people actually prefer the 6".

You'll be fine if you pull the trigger on this. Just replace the weight if you dont like it, they're like $5. Only thing I'd change about the unit is it doest use a D-handle, which i've been thinking about making for it.

Good luck with your research/purchase. Glad I could help.
