  • Not sure what to get with the G110v2

I have a Blue 2005 Nissan Altima that I have unfortunately neglected the paint and I am wanting to get it looking good.

I am ordering the G110v2 but I am not sure what pads I need and what product to use.

Do I use the M105 Ultra Cut Compound and then the M205 Ultra Polishing Compound? And if so would I use the Foam Cuting Pad with the M105 and then the Foam Polishing Pad with the M205? I plan on using the NXT Wax, do I use the Foam Finishing Pad with the NXT?

Or instead of the M105 would I use SwirlX or Meguiar's G17216 Ultimate Compound as the first step? What would I use in place of the M205?

I have clay bar'd the car and I think I need to do it one more time and after that I will rewash the car with Maguires car soap. And then I need to touch up quite a few paint chips and will wait a couple days to start the cut/polish/wax.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Chris

You may want to clay/clean/polish the car, then make sure the chips are cleaned out and touch them up. Then wax, avoiding the chips for 90 days or so.

As for the products, having a mild cleaner and a stronger cleaner (#205 and #105) or (SwirlX and UC) on your shelf will certainly cover most situations. Although, working by G110, you may do well with #205 and UC as your combo.

You would do a test spot with the milder product, and if it removes what you want, then do the whole car with it. If not, test spot with the stronger product.

If you were to order a case of pads, I would look at:

    1 - Cutting
    3 - Polishing
    2 - Finishing

With the polishing pad with the machine, that will give you a good variety. You really shouldnt need the cutting pad for most things, but a clean cutting pad with a MF bonnet is a great way to remove wax.

You would plan on the polishing pad for #105/#205, and then finishing pad for wax.

So UC is the first step and then 205 is the polish? Is 105 stronger than UC? Also where does SwirlX fall in the mix, is it a polish? So I could UC then SwirlX then Wax? All these products have me confused

Also where can I find cases of pads as you mentioned? So I don't need a cutting pad? Just a Polishing Pad and Finishing Pad?

No, these are all cleaners, just different strengths. SwirlX and #205 are mild cleaners that contain some polishing oils.

#105 is a bit stronger than UC, but a little less DA friendly.

So you could UC, then SwirlX, then wax if needed. Or SwirlX then wax. Or UC then wax.

If the car just needs the mild cleaner, then do that and wax.
If it needs a strong cleaner, then do that. And if the finish is good, then wax.
If it needs a strong cleaner, but leaves some light marks, then follow up with the mild cleaner. Then wax.
You just do what is needed. This goes back to the test spots mentioned above. Don't do the whole car, and find you needed something else.

autodetailingsolutions.com sells the cases, and other places may as well.

Unless you want to remove wax with a bonnet, (and even a clean polishing pad can work, if not quite as well) a cutting pad will not normally be needed. There is always a rare case, so cant guarantee anything, but it would be unlikely to need one.

Ok so in order to save some money right now I will just go with UC and SwirlX, should I get a pure polish to do after SwirlX then use the NXT Wax?

I saw a Meguiar's Cut n SHine Wool buffing pad, would this be something I want to put into the mix?

And my final question you mentioned a bonnet, is that something I need to put put over the polish and finishing foam pads or do I use the foam pads with the UC and SwirlX directly on the paint?

Re: Not sure what to get with the G110v2

A pure polish (#7, DC Polish) would be optional, up to you. Some people like to use a polishing pad, others a finishing pad with it. Or some still like that step by hand.

No, wool is not for a DA, it is for rotary. Even the Cutting Pad is barely for a DA.

You would apply the product with the foam, and remove them with a good cloth.

You can remove waxes with a MF bonnet over a clean pad if wanted.

Sorry not sure what #7 DC Polish is, is that Maguiars?

Wool and Cutting pad are out of my Shopping cart

Do you recommend a good cloth? Would a decent Micro Fiber work?

What is MF in MF Bonnet?

And are the foam polishing and finishing pads washable? Or do I have to replace them after one use or can they be used multiple times?

Thank you soooo much for your help. You are making my decisions alot easier.

Think #7 DC is Maguiars Deep Crystal Polish and MF bonnet is a Micro Fiber Bonnet?

The Supreme Shine is always popular here, and can get in packs. Figure 1 cloth per step, minimum, 2 would be nice.

autodetailingsolutions (ADS) has some bulk ones cheaper, havent used them myself, but no one seems to report issues.

What is MF in MF Bonnet?
Microfiber. Can look at them on ADS at least.

                  The 2.0 pads are washable.

The 1.0's are still re-usable, just squeeze and hand rinse out what you can. But that pad is for that product then more or less.
