  • 2009 Holden - Swirls gone! Pictures

    Hey all fellow MOL's

It's been a while since i have posted but thought i should wipe the dust off my favourites folder and dive in to take another peek.

I recently purchased a BLACK 2009 Holden (Australia) and surprise surprise it had swirls and holograms from when i picked it up.
Some might rememeber the green machine i used to own, and successfully removed the swirls with my G220 machine...

I was at it again and here are my steps (basic form)

    Wash
    Clay
    Ultimate Compound - w7207 pad
Deep crystal polish - by hand applicator
Tech Wax - by hand applicator
Spray detailer - to wipe off residue i missed because it got dark!

    Pictures...

Front of car, can just make out swirls...

A closer look at a swirl.

Swirls on the boot and spoiler.

Some of the gear that i used.

    Masking off around headlights etc.

The bonnet, after Ultimate Compund was applied with the G220. Two seperate passes to remove swirls.

Bonnet was polished with deep crystal then straight over with Tech Wax after. Swirls are gone.

Swirls in boot and spoiler are gone.

    Reflections.

    Finished!

Any feedback is welcome. The steps i took may not be correctly 100% right, but they worked for me! Enjoy!

        Great work!

Maybe you can try and go over the paint one more time with an 8207 pad. I think I might see some very light hazing in the sun shots after unless that is only smearing from the wax.

Cheers guys, yeah this method seemed to wrk for me. I had talked with someone about swirl X and Ultimate compound. they just receommended UC first up.
The camera i had couldnt really get the best shots, may have been the lense flare.
          Thanks again guys!

looks fine to me.. no hazing from my point of view.. i do see clouds though.. and the first pic of the masking he hasn't buffed off the product yet..

IMO nothing wrong with skipping swirlX .. very similar products, but uc is stronger.. nice work there btw.

We're perfectly fine with you going straight to UC given the amount of swirls (unless of course this specific model is known to have a high probability of very delicate paint) but we're more concerned about your pad choice. The W7207 cutting pad is not generally recommended with the D/A buffer due to the high probability of it hazing the paint. At the end of the day, however, it's a bit difficult to argue with the end result. Still, we'd like to see you get in the habit of starting with the W8207 polishing pad instead. Had this paint been very delicate you would have been hating the result of the cutting pad on a D/A!

Cheers for your feedback guys i appreciate it. I have a detail coming up on Monday on another black car. With my car i did get the results i was after. However i may try the polishing pad which i do have on the ready. Unopened as a matter of fact. Will let u know how i go. I did notice with the Meguiars Quick Wax i was getting a streak effect on the panels. Has anyone noticed this or am i just apply/buffing it incorrectly. I had to use quick detailer to remove these streaks
