  • Black 2007 Vette with lots of spider web swirls

I just ordered the G110v2 but haven't gotten it yet. I have an 07 black vette with very heavy spider web swirls. I use a soft brush on a 4' poll to wash it with 1 bucket & I dry it with a leaf blower then MF towel. Did this procedure contribute heavily to the swirls?

Should I am move to a 2 bucket system & wash mit?

What Meguiar products/pads...procedure should I do to eliminate the spider webs as much as possible using my G110v2 ? Please be as specific as you can.
I show my car & also put on about 5000 miles a year. It has 17000 miles now.

    Thanks,
    Steve from LI NY

Hi Steve wow sounds like a fantastic car!
I had a very similar case to what you have now. I recently purchased a black car (2009) from a dealer and noticed lots of swirls. Not really too heavy but definately noticeable in that sunlight.
Im not a professional detailer by any means but these are the steps i used. I will also start my thread afterwards and show before and after pics. Hope they help, and goodluck!

Firstly i would have to say do away with washing the vehicle with the brush. Personally i would use the wash mit and the two bucket method.

Give the car a reasonable dry off then carry out the clay procedure.
Just keep it away from plastic and rubber surfaces. Purely stick to where ever there is black painted surface. Metal or plastic bumbers are fine.

Then once happy with the result now its time to move onto the swirls.
Make sure you do these steps in the shade, not in the direct sunlight.

Break out the dual action polisher with the w7207 burgandy cutting pad and use the ultimate compound. Remember to mask off any area's that they pad may move over like plastics, rubber etc. Maybe keep a damp cloth on the ready just in case.

Work in small square by square sections at a time and make slow overlapping passes.
Some area's of the panel you are working on may need going over a second or third time perhaps. You will have to be the judge of this. Sometimes after buffing the Ultimate compound off you may find it easier to use a torch as if it were the sunlight. Thus being able to see if swirl marks are present. This will take some time however so make sure you have the best part of a entire day free, or weekend when the weather is right.

Once happy with the results it is your choice to move onto a pure polish. I use the A2116 Deep crystal polish. You can use which ever one you wish, this particular one works fine for me. You can apply this with the yellow foam applicator pads. Dries to a haze and buff off with a microfibre towel.

Once that step has been finished its now onto the wax. You can use which ever one you chose, the pure wax or tech wax. I normally use tech wax. Again apply this with a foam applicator pad to entire vehicle. Let it sit on the vehicle for anywhere from 20 mins to 30 minutes. (Some peoples opinions may vary). Half an hour usually does me well in the weather conditions i live in. Then buff off with another microfibre towel.

Presto you're done. Just remember to use the wash mit each time you wash and use the two bucket method. This will go towards ensuring you are keeping most of the dirt off your vehicles paint to eliminate swirls coming back. Maybe use a spray wax in between washes to "top the wax up" on your vehicle.

This method works for me, may not be the 100% correct way but everyone has their own methods.

All the best Steve, can't wait to see pictures!
    Mark.

I would try an 8207 polishing pad before stepping up to the cutting pad.

        100% agreed.

In addition I wouldn't start with a product as aggressive as Ultimate Compound if it isn't need. Use the least aggressive product and work your way up if needed.

It sounds like your car just has minor swirls that you want to correct to a show car condition. We might be talking about using M205 with a W8207 polishing pad and then a second pass of M205 with a W9207 finishing pad (for that 100% show car perfect look).

Please post photos of your paint/swirls so we can honestly recommend a good starting point.

Please start with the polishing pad and Ultimate compound BEFORE starting with the cutting pad. The cutting pad is way to aggressive for what you have described. I personally would start with the polishing pad and Swirlx and see what results you can get. If you are not satisfied give it another pass over the area before doing anything else. I just finnished doing my jet black BMW on friday and I received great results from just one pass from the method i just described to you.

The yellow polishing pad with M105 should get the job done for you. Works on mine. Follow up with M205 and the black finishing pad and it should look great.

Thanks to all of you. Great info. I'm still waiting for the products to arrive. I called Meguiar's & asked their opinion.

guy said: The corvette has a very hard clearcoat & suggested Ultimate Compound with the DA Polisher. He said SwirlX & ScratchX would have no effect on the spider web swirls.

I guess I'll do some testing when everything comes in. I will start with the swirlX & if that doesn't work Ill use the ultimate compound. I'll take before & after pics to post also.

                Thanks again,
                Steve from NY

You can always use SwirlX for maintenance afterwards if it doesn't give you the correction you need.

                  Best of luck.

Any pics of that 815 hp beast?

That is just sick (in a good way) looking.

I can see why you want the paint to look perfect. Amazing car!
