first time use da, what happened

I gave meguiars da a try a few weeks ago with swirl X, looked at car under sun the swirls were pretty much gone, but there is horrible haze everywhere, it looks awful, i am surprised how that happened, as i did everything i read on forums regarding da polisher, i used yellow polishing pad with swirl X, went over area slowly speed 3, cleaned pad, where did i go wrong?, i had a feeling that i should be using black buffing pad instead of yellow polishing pad, correct me if i'm wrong.

Ron, it's unlikely you damaged the paint in any way. First of all, you should have been running the DA on speed 5. Speed 3 is what you use if you want to apply wax or glaze, but paint correction needs more oomph.

My guess (and it's only an amateurish guess) is that what you are seeing is dried SwirlX. How large a section did you work for each set of passes? Did you buff until it was dry? Did you remove the polish immediately? Did you periodically clean your pad on the fly? Also, what wax did you use?

Do you have a bottle of Cleaner Wax or ColorX? Apply it to a small section, allow to haze and then buff off. Let us know if this fixes your problem or not.

yeah thats what i thought dried swirl X, i even wiped down with detailer and the haze still their, i was working on mb nano clearcoat paint, i used a section no larger than 2' by 2', basically yes to all your questions, to add i used nxt tech wax 2.0 by hand application, i could maybe post pics in a few days, thanks guyz.

Maybe try a test spot and do this. Apply your wax with the d/a. Then after it hazes over. Remove the wax with the d/z. Maybe the extra power of the machine will clear everything up quickly for you.

Ahhh, so you buffed until it was dry? That's probably the problem. Don't buff until the polish has gone dry. You always want a slightly wet film of polish left.

If I were you, I'd pick up a bottle of ColorX or Cleaner Wax and re-wax the car. I bet the ColorX will clear up the hazing. You can then top it with NXT, if you want.

An alternative is to wipe down the car with a 50/50 ISP-water solution and then re-wax with NXT.

Be sure to apply a thin coat of NXT and give it plenty of time to dry (20 to 45 minutes) before removing.

thanks guys, so using a yellow polishing pad is not the problem, also i would like to add that the nxt tech wax 2.0 pad is a bit rough in texture also the yellow polishing pad, is that how the texture should be?, finally can u clear up with me what is exactly meant by keeping the machine flat at all times, especially on curved, contoured surfaces it is even trickier.

sorry, but just to add, what does ISP do, does it remove haze etc, or covers it, how do i go about using it, it's not dangerous to paint?

When they say keep it flat, it means keep the pad flat on the paint. When going around a curve, you want to move your pad with the contours of the curve, and that is keeping your pad flat on a curve.

What akimel meant was IPA, not ISP. IPA is isopropyl alcohol. It removes any wax and fillers on the paint and should get it down to its bare state, ready to be waxed again.

Haha! Thanks for catching my typo!

Ron, when using a DA to apply NXT (or any other sealant/wax), I usually use a finishing pad at speed 3. Try to achieve a uniform THIN coat. You'll be surprised by how little of the wax you'll need to use.

Do pick up a bottle of ColorX. You'll find it a useful product to have. Wash the car and then apply the ColorX to a 1'x1' square on your hood. Allow to haze and then wipe off. Inspect. If the cloudiness has been removed (and hopefully it will be!), then you'll know that the problem was caused by dried product residue. Apply the ColorX to the rest of the car and you're good to go!

Ahh, sorry about that. I didn't notice your location. Megs' Cleaner Wax would work for you. But any AIO or paint cleaner (e.g., Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner) would also work. Also, you could use SwirlX again. It will definitely remove all polish and wax residue. Try applying by hand with a foam applicator to a test spot area. Wipe away immediately. Inspect.

chances are the clearcoat is marred. i got hazing with swirlx before when i was working by hand. had to use scratchx to get the hazing out
