  • Newbie Confused over store advice - One pad to apply, one to take off??

I bought a G220 polisher to take out some swirls. My plan is to clay, then use Meguiars Swirl remover, polish then wax.

The guy in the store said that the Meguiars representative told them to use 2 pads, one to apply polish and one to remove it. I have been told this in 2 seperate stores. So they sold me a yellow polishing pad and a black finishing pad and explained that I needed to apply with the black and take off with the yellow.

Every video I have seen on the net goes completely against this and shows using one pad to work a product into the paint and simpy use a microfibre towel to remove.

What method should I use?? I'm a little confused with advice that contradict each other.

Megs reps (with Meguiars) know what they are doing.

Use the yellow polishing pad to apply your paint cleaner (in this case Swirl X), and remove with a microfiber. You can use the black finishing pad to apply your wax if you wish, or you can do it by hand. Whichever way you prefer. Then remove with a microfiber.

Sounds like a good salesman upselling products, which in all fairness he is paid to do.

Or perhaps the salesman confused polish with wax. In the case of using your G220 to wax, you would use a finishing pad to apply wax and a cutting pad fitted with a microfiber bonnet to remove it. Speed settings for both actions would be set to 3 on the dial.

Follow Shane's advice. That is the correct way to do it.
