  • First Outing with G110v2 DA- A couple of questions

Had my first outing with my new DA yesterday, working on my wife's '03 Highlander. I haven't told her that it is my experimental car. lol.

I have a couple of questions of you experienced guys:
    1. Towards the end of using the Ultimate Compound and NXT, the pad was no longer spinning. Could this have been from not changing/cleaning the pads as I progressed through the job?
    2. What is the best way to clear/clean the pad as you are working?

Yes this can be a cause of it.
Read this thread, it has help a lot of people on how to clean the pad while working.

The idea is to clean the pad often while you work, change the pad is a must I would say so having always a couple of pads ready and changing them often would prevent the pad from saturating.

Re: First Outing with G110v2 DA- A couple of questions

ive seen the same a few times "pad not spinning" - at higher speeds and it was usually as a result from going from a flat panel to a curved panel and i think there might have not been enough surface for the pad to bite to cause the pad to spin ... i found that in spots where there was not enoug surface for the pad to bite on i would back ut down to about 2 or 3 and free float the pad and use the edges to buff the sills around the windows .. again not sure if it is the right or preferred method but its what i do ...
where you at a high speed and couldnt get the pad to spin effectively?
also mentioned is "cleaning the pad on the fly" .. believe it or not a pad should only be used on a panle and two and then cleaned or swapped ... yep i know your thinking 4-5 pads for a detail but thats what i do to ensure the same cut and result from panel to panel and then just throw them in the washer
dont give up, what the heck - just do it again

If you don't clean your pad regularly, or even switch to a clean pad at least once through a full detail project (or more, really) then the pad can tend to load up with product, potentially severely enough to bog down the buffer.

But this should NEVER happen when waxing since you should be using a very small amount of product - we're talking just a couple of ounces to cover a full sized sedan. Even taking a bit of waste into account with a standard pad on a D/A, you shouldn't use more than 4 or 5 ounces of product total for the job, half of which ends up on the car. That leaves, potentially, 2 to 3 ounces of product stuck in the pad - nowhere near enough to stop the pad from rotating.

Thanks guys. Just to clarify it was doing the orbital thing, just not spinning much. I was clearly using too much product. Live and learn!
