  • Winning the war against hard water spots

We were in the process of selling my wife's black Jetta. Because we are forced to park on the streets, it has been hit by the sprinklers several times. Every time creates nasty water spots. Usually, I couldn't get around to cleaning them off until they had already dried and started getting into the clearcoat.

In the past, I've tried M80 and M83 to remove them. However, because of what appears to be extremely hard paint, it usually only minimized the spots (which generally ran across the majority of the hood and along the entire passenger side.) Finally, I decided to try out this 'miracle potion' known more commonly as M105.Wow!It did an amazing job with 1/2 the work that M83 required, and a better result to boot.

Water spots after washing and claying:

The hood also had a pretty good sized (about 3 inches long) bird poop that had etched into the clear coat:

I did a single application of the M105 (whatever is recommended on the bottle- I think 3-4 passes of medium pressure and 2 passes of light pressure) at speed 4 on my G100.

Here is the test area I did (after removing the tape.) It's kind of hard to see the difference

In the close up of the test area, you can see what a difference it made. There are some light scratches and micro marring in there, but those would come out with an application of M80 a little later.

    What a difference it made

The bird poop also went away with one single application of M105.

All in all, I'm amazed at the ease of use and the effectiveness of M105.

I've also received a few comments from people looking to buy the car about how good of shape the paint is in. That's always a great compliment, especially from people who are looking for flaws in something.

Side note: Anyone have any idea why the first picture would not be posting on this thread? I tried 5 or 6 times to get it in there, but it just won't attach like the others. I know that the picture is still in the gallery, as I just copied the http from the gallery.

          nice transformation!
There's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you'll enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane?
